You don't have too be 14-25! I've got a bus pass.

But at least the total hours of soap on "desperate Auntie" over the next 2 Saturdays comes to 90 mins - ITV1 is serving up 2 full hours....

It aired again on BBC1 in the summer I recall.

I watched the David Jason drama last night. Was as ploddingly mediocre as I expected, but will have filled a gap for anyone wanting undemanding and unchallenging ITV drama-by-numbers.

I was impressed by the size of Del Boy's, sorry Don's, council flat in this one.

Did they share the Downton Abbey set?

Tbf ITV is probably showing less soap then BBC1, most of it will be adverts ofcourse.

Supermarkets did reasonably well. I wonder how may of the 3.8m watching will be put of drinking milk. Those poor dairy cows.

It's Paul Burling received 3.7m more than it deserved.

And BBC1 won the 9-10 slot if thats any consolation
With Panorama! How often does that happen?

Panorama Specials always do better than the normal versions.

I only pointed out ITV winning with Burling, because I didn't expect that to happen; whereas I expected BBC to win at 9pm.

Some figures to "add" to the official Apprentice numbers, from iPlayer:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcintern...ember_2010.pdf

Quote:
“The Apprentice Series 6 Episode 6 899,000
The Apprentice Series 6 Episode 5 867,000
The Apprentice Series 6 Episode 7 843,000”

At least ITV tried a bit of variety last night between 9 and 10. A Panorama special in the run up to Christmas? Really BBC1? Really? They need to sort out Wednesday nights as they are so bloody dull. It's crying out for an entertainment show or a movie between 8 and 10 on BBC1. In fact BBC1 & ITV were crap viewing last night!

Well, they will be airing the Indiana Jones movies on Wednesdays for the first three weeks next year. I suspect Waterloo Road will return soon afterwards to bring some stability to their Wednesday nights with 4-5m and possibly Life of Riley too which is capable of 5m+.

I can understand why the BBC aired those cooking programmes in the 8pm hour for the past couple of months. Although they're daytime material, last year they were rating pretty well at 7.30pm (close to 5m) so the BBC probably thought they could get similar ratings half an hour to one hour later. It hasn't turned out that way but I'm sure they'll learn from their mistake and next time put Simple Suppers back at 7.30pm.

Wednesday nights is a difficult night for BBC1 with no EastEnders to support the schedule and all sorts of competition from ITV1 ranging from football to awards to dramas to the occasional episodes of Coronation Street. I think on the whole BBC1 has held up quite well on Wednesdays this year, averaging 20% in primetime which is an improvement over 2009 and it's close to ITV's 20.7% average.

For 2011, I agree that when Waterloo Road's not airing they could show better programmes in the 8pm slot. Probably unlikely but I'd like to see a comedy block between 7.30-9pm: they could show comedies like Life of Riley, Miranda, My Family, their new sitcom Meet The Doyles, maybe a pre-watershed sketch show too. I think Wednesday nights is probably the best night for pre-watershed comedy now that ITV has blocked up most other nights with their soaps.

Some news from Broadcast regarding the BBC iPlayer.

The fact that Doctor Who jumped round the schedule probably explained why it got such record figures on the iPlayer. And when you look at the ratings for each episode along with iPlayer ratings, the averages are similar to what the Tennant era was getting in 2008

Quote:
“Doctor Who was the most-watched programme on the BBC iPlayer in 2010, a year that saw the catch-up service exceed a record-breaking 1.3bn requests of TV and radio shows.

The corporation’s video on demand service also reported a record high of 141m streams of programmes throughout November, with each month of the year seeing at least 100m plays of catch-up content. Overall use of the iPlayer is up by 32% year-on-year.

Doctor Who – The Eleventh hour was the most requested show with 2.2m plays, followed by the opening episodes of Top Gear’s 15th series and BBC1’s new drama adaptation of Sherlock.”

And the list of shows (requests in millions at the end)

1 Doctor Who (s5e1) BBC1 2.241m
2 Top Gear (s15e1) BBC2 1.68m
3 Sherlock (s1e1) BBC1 1.403m
4 Top Gear (s14e7) BBC2 1.255m
5 Outnumbered (s3e1) BBC1 1.157m
6 EastEnders Live (19-02-10) BBC1 1.130m
7 Live at the Apollo (s5e6) BBC1 1.076m
8 The Apprentice (s6e3) BBC1 1.050m
9 Doctor Who: The End of Time (pt2) BBC1 1.015m
10 Russell Howard’s Good News (s2e3) BBC3 982,000
11 Mock the Week (s9e3) BBC2 944,000
12 Mock the Week (s8e5) BBC2 940,000
13 FILM: The Incredibles BBC1 904,000
14 FILM: Pirates of the Caribbean 2 BBC1 870,000
15 Gavin and Stacey (s3e6) BBC1 839,000
16 FILM: Legally Blonde BBC3 807,000
17 Junior Apprentice (e1) BBC1 795,000
18 Tracy Beaker Returns Full Circle (e1) CBBC 776,000
19 World Cup’s Most Shocking Moments (01-06-10) BBC3 730,000
20 Madness in the Fast Lane (10-08-10) BBC1 720,000

The only reason Doctor Who is top is because the first episode would have been available for 3 months on iPlayer from April to July.

It isn't and had BBC1 not nicked it from BBC2 there would be nothing to appeal to me on the night. And when The Apprentice isn't on Wednesdays are an incredibly weak night on the channel for me.

It's true though.

The Eleventh Hour was listed on iPlayer for 93 days. In the first 7 days it had 1,272,300 views.

In total it had 2,183,148 views. Presumably its been repeated since to bring the number up further slightly.

But even in its first week it had over a million views, as did all of the series 5 episodes. When added to the weekly ratings the show was proving to be getting a similar audience to some corresponding Tennant episodes that were shown during the same week in 2008. So it wasn't a total ratings collapse for the show in that context.

Oh, I agree.

But I think it needs to be put into context, you can't compare a show's viewership for 3 months on there for something that was only on there a week.

And mousecat, I'm a Doctor Who fan. I was merely providing context to the above figures, something Broadcast did not do.

You are right. The weekly figures were impressive and the two shouldn't be confused.
