I think the overnights which we'll get first thing will be for the advertised slot, we won't get any tape-checked overnights unless anyone works them out.
EastEnders is only just starting at 20:05. It's no wonder BBC gets big peaks when shows overrun into the next slot.”
Calm down, dear - it's only a TV schedule!
As you point out, it seems ITV was just as guilty with Coro St blatantly over-running into the 8pm hour which served no other purpose than to attempt to dent EE.
That backfired a little with EE not starting till 8.04pm, but it will still dent EE in the overnight figures reported in the morning (which for EE will be the 8pm hour not the actual 8.04-9.00 it aired for) - and the reported overnights in the morning will be the only Christmas Day ones that make the popular press/media, as the BARB officials almost never really get quoted by anyone subsequently.
So a clear attempt by ITV to maximise CS's overnight reported figures tomorrow whilst depressing EE's.
I had to endure the whole ITV1 6-9pm line-up tonight  due to being with the folks (including gran and auntie whose TVs I am sure are tuned exclusively to ITV1 as it's the only channel they
ever watch), and make no mistake, from what I saw ITV made a big effort with EmFm and Coro tonight. Not the usual "put out any old filler for EmFm and Coro as no-one will be watching" - they unquestionably went for ratings tonight, and obviously have very high hopes for their Orient Express remake, and it will be interesting to see the numbers in the morning.
It seems likely that BBC1 intended to air 2 x 28 min normal eps of EE tonight, but with ITV scuppering that by going with 6pm and 7pm for EmFm and Coro, they had to merge them into one - which was therefore only ever going to run 56 mins tops.

I can see a hell of a lot of BBC1 viewers turning over 5 minutes into Come Fly with Me - quite the worst comedy offering I have seen in ages. Shockingly unfunny, and the BBC1 Controller has serious questions to ask himself about (i) how this rubbish made it to air and (ii) how it ended up in a prime 10pm Christmas Night slot.
Question is where those BBC1 viewers will have gone at 10.10pm? I expect Alan Carr's stand-up repeat will do unexpectedly well, and Orient Express will undoubtedly see a lift. Be very interesting to see whether ITV1 can outrate BBC1 in the 10pm hour overall - I think we may see this.
My big worry is that viewers will have been put off CFWM from the trailers/previews alone - and decided to go for ITV1's 2 hour offering at 9pm, recording The Royles.
It would be a shame to see a depressed rating for The Royle Family as it was a real return to form - although as it was much more observational, it may not have the mass 11m+ appeal. But it went down well in my household anyway - unlike CFWM which was met with open mouthed disbelief.
The One Ronnie looked a disappointment, but I only heard the first 2 sketches before the folks started talking. Shall have to watch it again later. Bleedin' families - stopping you watching the Christmas telly!
But strangely quiet when Em Fm and Coro St are on...
