That doesn't surprise me. I suspect the typical Breakfast viewer is up at 6.30am on their day off reading the paper (once the butler has ironed it of course! )

Well, presumably by then everybody who hated it had stopped watching and the figure would go up. Unless they were all transfixed to the televsion by sheer horror. ()

Something seems wrong about Ad of the Year.

An hour slot dedicated to further promoting advertisers' products? Surely product placement? Surely commercially driven?

There's been plenty of shows like that in the past. Just a cheap way of filling an hour.

Does anybody know how the final of Only Connect rated on Monday night? BBC4, 9pm. Apologies if this has been reported already, I had a look but my post-Christmas brain is sluggish and I couldn't find it.

Thanks in advance!

Just thinking, people thought with lower hollyoaks figures that it might get axed, but if anything it is getting higher ratings than shows later on. Like after 6 yesterday, hollyoaks and the simpsons got the highest ratings. Makes you think, if they are going to axe hollyoaks, they would need to think about axing other programmes too. So Hollyoaks IMO is in a very safe position, plus there is e4 first look, which adds to channel 4 figures. When you add them together it can easily be around 1.9 million which is good. Of course it might be just because it is christmas, but there has not been nothing decent on channel 4 this xmas i don't think.

BBC Breakfast's Susanna Reid burgled. (Her and the family are safe).
She was due to present on New Year's Eve...

That's arguable. On yesterday's rating at least, Breakfast was down by about 0.4m (it usually gets 1.7-1.8m) which is the same loss as Daybreak suffered. The difference is that Breakfast had a higher starting point.

Rock and Chips did suffer from the scheduling which the world and his wife predicted. The loss over the hour is quite worrying though - at least if it'd remained steady the finger could solely be pointed at George Dixon. The Polar Bears did better than I expected it would.

Marple took advantage of the headstart it was given and performed well.

Having been forced to watch more ITV tonight (I'm quite getting into Emmerdollyoaks Farmers' Wives now... ), I couldn't help noticing the frantic promotion of Ad of the Year all through the soap block, as if it was one of the must-see TV events of the year.

With ITV's soap block tonight and the constant promotion, I will be seriously hacked off if Ad of the Year outrates the quite superb Toast - which was not only the best thing on telly this Christmas by a mile, but possibly the best thing on TV in the whole of 2010.

But I never saw Toast getting more than 4.5-5m at best, and I do fear the worst...

Agreed. Toast was amazing. Ad of the Year was absolute cack and if it wins in the 9pm war it's a travesty.

Yeah I agree with you. Toast was very good. Like you say, I don't expect Toast will be that high because it seemed a little bit more a niche programme to me. But I don't think Ad of the Year will beat it. Just looking though Ad of the Decade did pretty well last year (Sunday 20 December) , had an overnight rating of 4.5m(17%) and this was against Antiques Roadshow - 6m (22%) & Top Gear -5.6m (21%).

It shouldn't anyway as it's just a cheap filler( just like pre Xmas week BBC1 had some filler type programming and ITV1 didn't, now it's swapped around a little) they can't both have great stuff every night. Some of the pre-christmas ITV1 deserved to get good ratings, so does BBC1 tonight and the last few days.

Daybreak is going to suffer more because it has a lower base to start with. The drop is around the same though - both shows lost around 0.4m on the average.

Saying this, I may be missing your point and I'll suddenly realise what you mean when I'm not so tired, so I'm if not getting it sorry about that.

From Attentional:

BBC One
21:00 - Toast: 6.2m (25.3%)

Channel 4
19:10 - Kirstie and Phil’s Embarrassing Bits: 1.6m (6.6%)

More4
21:00 - Michael Jackson’s Secret Hollywood: 190,542 (0.8%)

Well deserved rating there for Toast.
