So the tram crash episode had more viewers than the live episode. A great week overall for them.”
An official average then of
13.54m for the week, timeshifting 1.4m on the overnight average of 12.1m.
This compares with EastEnders' 25th week average of
12.52m for the week, timeshifting 0.7m on the overnight average of 11.8m.
For ITV, they'll obviously be looking at the 13.54m number which no doubt makes it the most successful week for Coronation Street in years.
EDIT: ITV gets 3rd place for Coronation Street, but the inclement weather may mean Strictly will take that back if its overnight is 13m+ tonight...
It is worth noting that the episodes after Coronation Street's 50th have held up better than EastEnders' 25th:
EastEnders - Week after 25th
22/02 - 11.4m (43.0%)
23/02 - 10.4m (43.0%)
25/02 - 9.4m (39.0%)
26/02 - no episode
Coronation Street - Week after 50th
13/12 - 11.7m (46.3%) - 19:30
13/12 - 11.7m (42.3%) - 20:30
16/12 - 9.2m (34.6%)
17/12 - 10.7m (44.1%) - 19:30
17/12 - 11.3m (43.2%) - 20:30
Ratings are tape-checked.
Even considering the drop on Thursday, 2 million returned for Friday's second episode. Now whether it remains ahead of EastEnders next week will be interesting. The opposition to Coronation Street is actually quite weak, on Monday (its only episode due to Come Rain Come Show) at 7:30pm, its opposition is
Deadly 60, on Thursday it's a
scientific documentary, which I can't see being an attractive option 2 days before Christmas. The Friday opposition is a bit more tricky in that it faces the BBC News leading after The Chronicles of Narnia and then My Family at 8:30pm. If the tables are turned, I don't see it happening until Christmas Eve.

Eugh, Jeremy Kyle won its slot, and This Morning won its slot from 11am onwards it seems. That's quite surprising. Was this a one off 'rise' for some reason, or has ITV been closing the gap recently for some strange reason?
