Network Ratings:
1. CBS - 12.3m (+3%) & 3.2 (n/c)
2. NBC - 8.2m (+4%) & 2.8 (n/c)
3. FOX - 7.8m (-15%) & 2.8 (-18%)
4. ABC - 9.3m (-4%) & 2.7 (-7%)
FOX will still win the season due to American Idol and The Superbowl - which looks like it could well top last years 106m record. NBC will head in a dramatically downward direction when the football season is over and comparisons vs last year will be bleak due to the absence of the Winter Olympics this time. FOX's ratings so far are down due to the failure of new series, House's declines and a shorter, Yankee-less World Series.
The biggest new show among adults 18-49 has been Mike & Molly, a third for Chuck Lorre. But really, nothing has done well so far this season with new hits being overshadowed by last seasons breakouts like Glee (+29%) and Modern Family (+36%) which now regularly top the A18-49 ratings if we exclude the football. The Walking Dead broke records on cable with a 2.7 average among adults 18-49.
Some of the biggest declines for returning series:
House (FOX) - Down 33%
Desperate Housewives (ABC) - Down 20%
The Biggest Loser (NBC) - Down 21%
The Mentalist (CBS) - Down 15%
In midseason, CBS shuffle the comedy pack again. Sh*t My Dad Says has had its order trimmed and Rules of Engagement moves to Thursdays at 8.30pm while new series, Mad Love (starring Sarah Chalke) goes on Mondays at 8.30pm.
Tonight, CBS launch Paula Abdul's Live To Dance (Got To Dance). It has a couple of weeks before it starts going head-to-head with American Idol.
The big scheduling move is American Idol to Wednesdays and Thursdays. Bones moves to 9pm with an Idol lead-in and it'll be interesting to see how it does with that in a competitive slot against Grey's Anatomy and CSI. And will The Big Bang Theory hold up as well vs Idol as Modern Family did last season?
