Its a good shout, as great a show as it is, its primarily middle class backgrounds and jobs that people come from

At the end of the last series, Sugar did say that he was hoping to get applications for this series from people who had been made redundant.

The sad thing is that the one person on the show who had lost their job during the recession, Alex, was getting derogatory comments on here and elsewhere about being unemployed.

Unfortunately, this was true. It's a shame because it would have had a feel good factor to have an unemployed person get the job.

They did a version of the American Apprentice with people who had been made redundant.

I actually think this is a really fantastic idea and would be incredibly relevant and empowering- I'm sure if somebody who works in telly sees this thread we could very well see it on our screens.

Yup, I am learning a heavy lesson now. When a chap who had been unemployed for 6 months was taken on to fill a second vacancy in my department I felt quite anti him. In part this was natural rivalry I suppose, but I know that him being unemployed for 6 months was an excuse not to like him.

Now I am unemployed myself and have been for 4 months, so what goes around comes around. I told people I was unemployed, but I wish I hadn't. I really hoped it would not be for so long, but hey these are hard times. I enjoy watching the Apprentice because in part I hope that one day I will get the entrpreneurial bug, invent something marvellous and set up my own business. I rather think I might have done it before now if I was going to though!

oh really i had no idea, but i have to say i think it should include all types of unemployed people and not just the so called middle class man or woman who became redundant, so this will include anyone of any age, gender, class or background over 18. as long as they are willing to work hard then thats all that counts. all the people should all have some type of aspirations in life, maybe they just need a kick.

Should be done for those that are have been long term unemployed and want to find a job, i guess those don't really go hand in hand though as if you want a job you won't be unemployed for longer then a few months maximum. Maybe even a year at a push.

There's no point doing it for people that can find another job, it should be done for those that cannot get a job but clearly have some sort of skill. I'm sure there's people out there like that.

Thankfully I have not been unemployed since 2001, I would dread being unemployed in the current climate

Two of the contestants on this series were unemployed:

Alex Epstein - former head of communications at Masternaught Three X, a vehicle tracking and mobile workforce applications firm.

Raleigh Addington - the graduate who quit the show after week one because his brother was seriously injured serving in Afghanistan.

I think Sugar would always hire someone currently with a job rather than someone unemployed. He's always struck me as someone that doesn't let his heart rule his head. I can't see him hiring some unemployed person with little or no business experience.

That's more to do with the fact that the show kept captioning him as "Unemployed, Head of Communications".

More to the point, the act of giving up your own job for a chance to work with Sugar is surely a plus in his eyes.

I think it would be a good idea, but I fantasise about more exciting things myself.

On the surface it's a good idea, but what would happen to the Fired candidates? They'd be still unemployed, unless LS decided to find niches for them.

But the unemployed would be facing reality in real life, and losing on the show wouldn't help at all. They're better not going on it then, for their own sakes I mean.

That's pretty much true of any reality TV - it chews people up then spits them out.
