Aliona's sense of humour and teasing Matt about the judges.
Intersting interview with Matt and Aliona about their reaction to the harsh judging and some stuff about the showdance.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1uyO-rFBrU Check out how she teases him to say something about the judges at 45 seconds into the VT Made me laugh

This couple is just great - and I would love to see that show dance now, so voters know what they have to do!!
Or does the third couple get to perform their showdance as a showfiller? Happened with Brendan and Lisa Snowden. |

Got to love that girl to bits. I think she does 'Speet on the judges opinions'. Time to start The Aliona Adoration Society, I think

They really are in tune with each other. For me theirs is a genuine rapport, they disagree, have an occasional fall out and laugh a lot. Brilliant partnership, which part of why they are my favourite couple.

I think Aliona shares the same opinion as just about every sane person about the judges.
Brendan has difficulty keeping his cool over it and Aliona seems to think its funny. I quite like Aliona giving clues to her judgement of the judges and that its a source of humour to her rather than taking it seriously. Matt wasn't drawn other than to point out he had seen the Samba danced in Brazil and they were doing the same back-flips as he did. |

Yeah I think she's a funny and a lovely girl (don't see why some ppl still have a prob with her or her choreo).
However the funniest interview (found out of that link) is Gavin and Katya's interview! Gavin "I'm a winner really" lol... (bless him) )))))And when Gavin also said he's closing the gap on himself, Scott and Matt Lol..lolololololol )) Gotta luv his optimism. |

This is just my guess at the Aliona/judges relationship.
Last year Aliona choreographed a good Rumba and Tango for Rav based on her assessment of Rav's standard and the judges criticised her. Rav believed the judges and it undermined the relationship. Aliona then choreographed a bad Quickstep, part of which had to be her fault, and she and Rav were distinctly cold toward each other. This year, the rules have been slackened (almost torn up it seems) by the producers, and Aliona has welcomed the decrease in the importance of the judges and choreographed for the viewers. IMO she is a good teacher and can choreograph the safe stuff when she wants. She would have done better for Matt with the judges by doffing her cap and playing safe, and she has put too much into the routines at times and sometimes the routines look a bit jumbled. The routines have been very entertaining though. I dont take the whole thing too seriously though - its just a TV show - so I think Matt has been a great partner to her in giving her 100% support, and I think more of Matt for doing that than if he had looked a little bit better when dancing. |

They may be equally driven and feel the judges can be ignored, but there are people out there who understand what the judges are getting at. "Dancing as hard as you can" does not mean you are enjoying it, which is perhaps what the judges should have commented on.
Sorry, but apart from a couple of dances I have not really seen the joy of dance from this pairing. Pamela & James show it in abundance which is possibly one reason their faults were overlooked by the judges. |

When Matt does get to a level where he knows the routine well enough to deliver it, he has been great at that. His Samba, Austin Powers character and the strongman in the Charleston show how good he is at performing. They have more dances I enjoy rewatching than any other couple, even though Kara dances cleaner and better. |

This video was filmed before the semi finals I saw it (along with all the semi finalists) just before the Friday show.........so it was prior to the Salsa thing and actually if the judges saw it it might have added fuel to the fire. Aliona absolutely does know why the judges were down on them and she was doing Matt no favours by carrying on regardless and it bit HIM on the bum in the Salsa....when it should have been HER getting all the sarkiness for coreographing an over simple and lewd Salsa.

Poor old Aliona, can't win, can she, with posters like Monaogg's and Jan55555 coming down on her like a ton of bricks??
Not even allowed to have her own blonde hair, not allowed to have risky choreography, while this is praised in Artem's court. Let's hope she ignores the message boards and blogs completely, sadly not seeing the posts by people who want to give her some praise. She has showcased Matt's possibilities, so time some of those cement goggles came off. |

I agree Dorabella14. Whatever anyone thinks of her choreography, Their chemistry, dancing and routines have got them into the final. So..... enough said.

I see your point and agree. Pamela is the best at acting the dance.
When Matt does get to a level where he knows the routine well enough to deliver it, he has been great at that. His Samba, Austin Powers character and the strongman in the Charleston show how good he is at performing. They have more dances I enjoy rewatching than any other couple, even though Kara dances cleaner and better. And if the judges and producers don't want modern choreography, why on earth did they hire a modern choreographer? |

I for one do not have cement goggles. I thoroughly enjoyed their Charleston and the Austin Powers Jive. Both of these dances were full of fun & Matt looked like he ENJOYED dancing them. Too many dances have had awkward choreography and as a result Matt looks like he is grimly trying to get to the end of the routine with no mistakes.
This is what the judges see and perhaps the rose spectacled Matt fans will not. ![]() ![]()

Sometimes the old original song sounds better than the new perfectly produced in the sound studio version.
That can be the same with a routine - it may not be the best ever, but it has something different about it that makes it memorable. I wanted the producers to make Strictly a better version of itself. Instead, they have decided to change it this year to Loosely Come Dancing and I think the dances haven't been the greatest (despite Kara being the best dancer ever on the show|). However, I do appreciate that we have more variety this year and a lot of very interesting characters and pairings. It's not actually all about the dancing anyway. |
