'I'm not looking for any Cautious Carols or Steady Eddies' but...

Isn't that exactly what the final two are??

Don't get me wrong, I've backed Stella from day 1 as think she has been the strongest candidate, but let's be honest - if they had pictures in the dictionary defining a 'Cautious Carol' and a 'Steady Eddie', Stella & Chris would feature!

If LAS was looking for something different, as he suggested at the start of the process, he would have chosen Stuart/Jamie and Joanne, shirley?!

Spot on!

But in fact he ALWAYS chooses a CC/SE doesn't he?

I agree.
Sugar chose two people who are actually quite similar despite their different backgrounds.
Cautious Carole and Steady Eddie.:yawn:
Sugar was never going to take a risk on Joanna, Stuart or Jamie.

Steady Eddie may be spot on, but Stella is no Cautious Carol. Cautious Carol does not leave school to work her way onto the management of the trading room at a Japanese investment bank.

Stella is calculating Carole, Laura complaining Carole, Joanna cleaning Carole.

A steady eddie is someone who always plays it safe and is very cautious. Howard was a good example of someone like this from series 5. Someone who has good qualities but won't take a calculated risk or cannot evaluate a calculated risk.

Chris's background is investment banking which involves evaluating risks and taking gambles. It's not really the background of a steddie Eddie. People are just classing him as such because of his voice and his upper class background.

Stella's background in corporate banking and the way she was presented in the boardroom by everyone well could be the type of description of a cautious Carol. However, she has a wide range of skills and is very calm and composed as well as being intelligent so there is a good raw materials there for being able to be creative and then successfully implement that creativity into a practical idea.

The final task always involves marketing a product and having to create something so the full abit of skills are needed and creativity and risk taking are one of them, so they both get a chance to put it to the test.

I would not say either of them exceptional but out of who was there other than Liz I'd say they are the two who out of the two combine a good range of skills and also may be able to be creative and take calculated risks.

You don't have to be a bullshitter who bangs on about selling yo-yo's at 12 or someone who goes on about something unquantifiable and nebulous like business instinct to be the type of contender he is talking about.

For me, Chris and Stella are the closest to be able to pull of what he seems to want. Remember you still need some of the qualities of a Steddie Eddie and a cautious Carole to be able to implement the calculated risks.

I don't think either Chris or Stella are exceptional but there closer to what he wants than this thread suggests. It's their qualities rather than their personalities which should matter.

Superb post, well-reasoned...

But I stand by my original post, so there!

But if a person doesn't have much of a personality, quality would be thin on the ground.

Stuart wouldn't be a cautious Carol.
