Has anyone tried / successfully completed a firmware update on their Philips DVDR? How easy was it? Did it solve old problems or cause more (new) problems? Was performance better after?

Philips want me to try a firmware upgrade on my DVDR890 before taking it for repair - does/will the firmware upgrade override the player's current multiregion capability by restoring it back to Region 2 only?

Grateful for all advice.

thanks

Did the firmware upgrade last night with a disk supplied by Philips. Sat back ready to enjoy troublefree viewing of "The Four Feathers" and an hour in - the picture started to jump, then skipped and finally froze!!!! So, no change there then and it tells me that it's not a firmware problem. Needless to say I'm now back on the phone to Philips.

Yep on my DVDR75 and it was successful.

Easy enough when I had worked out how to use my CD writer. The update managed to solve a locking up problem and added some more characters to the naming bit of the menu. Didn't update the issue with 'The Italian Job' (where you can't get past the first menu).
