Obviously yes in the case of the female pros. Now stop starting polls!

If it is in the context of the dance but not so much that it becomes the focus of attention

I think that some dances are fine to wear skimpy outfits, but I think it detracts from the dancing. In Gavin/Katya's case, probably a good thing (Sorry, I love Gatya).
But I don't think that all outfits need to be skimpy and obviously waltz/foxtrot/vw etc. should be in flowey dresses and tails imo.

The costumes should reflect the character of the dance.

Ballroom is intended to feel 'romantic', so should convey that feeling.

Latin is intended to be sexy, so it should look sexy.

It's funny how things have changed in just a few years. I can rememer Lilia looking positively naked in a very respectable leotard.

And then Ola turned up in series 4 wearing string and a postage stamp, and that's been the norm ever since.

Buddy, have you no shame?

I agree with martyboy. The outfits should fit in with the character of the dance.

Are you trying to tell me Artem won't be doing his waltz in a pair of speedos?

I'm in the 'if it suits the dance' camp.

Skimpy is sometimes appropriate (my sister in law dances samba and you haven't seen skimpy until you have been backstage at a samba school show ).

Other times it is just a shameless ploy to get more votes

Sometimes, but not when it's done for the sake of it, just to be outrageous. It has to fit the mood of the dance. And it still has to be tasteful.

Generally I prefer more to be left to the imagination (and yes I know I'm semi naked on Twitter but that's an exception!).

Quite, depending on whether it is Dance in the Nudist Camp
or
Dance in the Carmelite Sisters Pilgrimage Camp.

No, I really don't like them. In the case of fabric I honestly think more is more . Those bikinis-rather-than-dresses are usually unflattering, even on girls with amazing figures.
