ITV Player & 4oD on Sony Blu-ray players
Sony this week updated its PS3 video store with ITV Player and 4oD.
Does anyone know if the same is planned for its networked Blu-ray players? |

ITV Player is due on the Sony 2010 and on Blu-Ray players around the 20th January 2011 and on the Bravia TV's at the end of February 2011.
C4 on Demand approx 6 weeks later in both cases. Allow an allowane of an extra two weeks for problems found during Beta testsing. At the moment no show stoppers have been found. eddie |

I wouldn't worry - the quality is a shit as you would expect.
But I guess if you don't have Virgin and its far better picture quality for catchup it's better than viewing on the PC but blowing up a web page video on a tv screen is never much good |

It would be hard to make the VOD-to-TV experience for ITV much worse than it is online. 4oD online is pretty good though.

Update?
So Drumtochty aka Eddie, what is the update on the go-live dates for ITV Player & 4OD?
By the info you gave before I'm expecting for Bravia; ITV Player - 15th March 2011 4OD - 26th April 2011 are the plans for the service to match the PS3? I really like ITV Player on the PS3 but 4OD is really below par service with lots of buffering and poor layout. Also, besides ITV Player & 4OD are there any other Internet TV channel services coming and when? Sorry last thing, do you have a launch date for the Skype service? and will it be available for the KDL-37EX403/503 range of Bravia TV's? Don't really agree with the comments below based on BBC Iplayer/Five on Demand on the Bravia.. and ITV Player on the PS3 are all good quality services... it's only 4OD on the PS3 that lacks a high quality of service and is unwatchable. Keep up the good work Sony! |

Darren It will be available for network update on the 18th Feb. It doesnt really offer anything new: Quote:
This utility upgrades the Blu-ray player firmware to version M03.R.742 and provides the following benefits:
BD-ROM playability improvement When DVD playback is done in upscale to 1080p, the horizontal bar might be displayed. |

Firmware upgrade fixes;
Playability improvement of the following discs: BD-ROM Compliance Disc, "Alejandro Sanz" (BD),"Solomon Kane" (BD), "The Road" (BD), "The Bourne Ultimatum" (DVD), "Apocalyptico" (DVD) Incorrect characters on DivX Caption restored Horizontal bar no longer accidentally displayed when DVD playback is done in upscale to DVD playback. The firmware upgrades do not add any new VOD channels or radio stations, the updates to these are carried out on Sony's servers in the respective country your in. I have a USA model that gets content from USA, CA, GB, FR, IT, Australia, etc depending on what i set my VPN access to. I can say that the USA & GB content is the best |

Perhaps Sony are hoping that we all get fed up with waiting and buy a PS3

Informed sources at both broadcasters tell me it's not a current priority. They really struggle with developing for all of these new platforms.

Useless!
thanks Eddie, how do you report a user for spam?
Sony seem to have issued some revised software yesterday, well at least for the KDL-37EX403 but I don't think new services are dependant on a software update (like the PS3's). Whhyy would some looser make dates up! I guess we are in for a long wait if it ever does turn up... I guess the Sony Bravia service is dead now and that ProjectCanvas aka YouView will pick up where Sony started. |
