Foxsat EPG data
Sorry if this has been covered before but why is it that Foxsat HDRs only offer seven days'-worth of forward schedules?
The Christmas double issue of Radio Times went on sale between 4-7 December, listing programmes from 18-31 December. Yet my Foxsat HDR only currently goes up to Christmas Day

7 days is all that Freesat broadcast. It's the same with Sky.

But the point is what's the limitation here?
If broadcasters are making their schedules available 10 days out of the start of each TX week (earlier at Christmas and Easter) then why isn't more info shown on Foxsat and Sky boxes. Is it a limitation of tech spec (e.g. D-Book) or a decision taken by each manufacturer / platform? |

At the end of the day it's only an epg and not a TV planner like the Radio Times. It's not necessary for the epg to include data for a fortnight for it to function effectively, the performance of series linking from one week to the next is perfectly procured with just an eight day span.

Not sure I agree. What if you're going on holiday for a fortnight? Series linking may be fine for *series* but what about all the one-offs you tend to get - especially over Christmas and New Year...

Statistically the guide becomes increasingly inaccurate the longer it gets, plus the data volume required to download increases linearly. In most circumstances people book a programme as series link and that deals with long-term recordings. On next generation products there is a trailer booking facility but that isn't possible in the current products.
A ten day EPG might be nice but it also pays to remember how bad many broadcasters are at sticking to their listings. |

This is a good example of where remote recording would be useful.
When I had Sky+ I used to login to their website (or used their iphone app) for remote recording. On the train into work, I'd often see programmes mentioned in the paper that I wanted to record but wouldn't be home into time to do so. Remote record is great for that - could even do when on holiday overseas. For me this would be a great feature to add to the Foxsat. I would be happy to see increased power consumption in standby mode if this feature could be supported. Does anyone know if there are plans to merge in other internet services like Youtube onto the Humax box? I played with a friend's standalone "Boxee" box the other day - the user interface is really impressive. It allows you to view iPlayer, ITV, C4, Youtube, play films from other machines in your home (via ethernet or wifi) and much more. It'd be great if they could add Freeview or Freesat to the Boxee box. The Boxee user interface software is free (open source) so you can install it on your PC/laptop and use it there or buy a standalone box. There's even a free iphone app to let you use the iphone as a remote control. http://www.boxee.tv/faq |

No mention of Freesat boxes also getting the portal and I predict with a strong sense of certainty that you won't be seeing Sky Anytime on Freesat anytime soon
