I didn't realise at the time but certain things seemed odd.

The calm way he accepted his fate without any disappointment.
The subdued reception going before the others with Tess, unlike near hysteria for Kartem.

Then I got to thinking back to when I read the M&A appreciation thread after the result. I was puzzled as to why at half time, their supporters were predicting a loss.
I didn't move from Kartem thread throughout the programme, where the mood was very positive. In fact I said I'd thought they had won due to their reception upstairs.

So if Matt's supporters were expecting him to lose, then he would have too. I don't know how, but I guess from betting odds which I don't understand. You can be sure though, some pros and celebrities would have a direct account with bookmakers who would keep them informed.

There is a thread asking whether Matt and Aliona were unpopular because of their cool reception with the other contestants?
I don't think so, rather that all concerned were uncomfortable as Matt's defeat was likely and he knew it.

Well I'm a right Negative Nellie and I even I couldn't understand why people were so doom and gloom on the Matt thread.. I wouldn't have bet my house on him getting into the second part but I'd still have been shocked had he gone out and Pamela stayed in, especially with the judge's votes not counting. I suppose the judges nitpicking over the last while have started getting people down and they were expecting the worst?. I was then assuming that people in the K&A thread were similarly gloomy and fatalistic but obviously not

I thought he had a great chance - even though I know the vast majority on here supported Kara I could see there was a huge amount of support on other forums for Matt so I thought it might balance out somehow but alas.....!

I would agree that he seemed to be a lot more relaxed this evening, I think he'd just decided to enjoy the final after the stress and angst of last weekend.
