Yes, they were very inconsistent this year, which ruined things a bit.

I think an unintentional lift can be forgiven, but changing the make-up of a dance completely should not be forgiven. Craig did make himself look a bit foolish.
Harrowing.

Here is an American definition of AS:

http://blogcritics.org/video/article...enge-american/

Quote:
“Tonight’s competition was for the title of "Champion of American Smooth." American Smooth is comprised of four dances: waltz, tango, foxtrot, and Viennese waltz. These dances were adapted from the traditional European dances but, unlike the International dance, the couples may break apart and perform independent moves before touching again. The open position allows for more creativity and expression. The traditional closed position, where ribcages meet and the upper torsos form a V is what most people think of when they think about ballroom dance.”

and the British definition:

Quote:
“American Smooth = Waltz + Tango + Foxtrot + Viennese Waltz”

But one year on Strictly, Vincent I believe made out that quickstep is also acceptable as the backbone of AS. Honestly everybody is making it up, the way Fred and Ginger did.

I really don't know anything about the AS beyond what I've seen on Strictly. It is a Ballroom dance though, which is why I hated the Paso elements in Kara's one and the Rumba bits in Matt's. It just seemed wrong to me. I also think that more of Kara's should have been in hold.
