Is this the first time they've not mentioned what the winning candidate will be doing for Lord Sugar?

Did they say last year or did we find out later? Its a big omission as its been built up to something big that needs innovation and risk taking and the best thing he could say about Stella was she that she was meticulous - which suggests some other sort of job.

I didn't hear anyone mention it either. And yes, if Sugar didn't, that would be the first time.

Apparently the job is "managing contracts at Viglen" according to The Telegraph

The 31-year-old will work as a product manager for the tycoon's computer manufacturing film Viglen after impressing Lord Sugar with her determination and dedication on the 12-week programme.

Thanks too. Btw that is such a corporate job

Pity geeky Stuart missed out there. On the other hand, the offer of 'if we don't fix your faulty PC's in 24 hrs, I'll give you half a dozen ponies' wouldn't give the right impression.

So a job which, in a normal job market, would probably be paid far less than the investment banking job she was previously doing.

Does anyone have any idea how big viglen really is. It was not started by LS and is really quite old. It supplies computers to schools and colleges. I am sure in the present economic climate which LS doesnt fail to remind us of that there will be a fall off in contracts. It is also a cut throat business. I cant see her staying long.

Viglen Ltd is a private company categorized under Computer Peripherals Manufacturers and located in St Albans, HERTS, United Kingdom. Current estimates show this company has an annual revenue of 93,718,698 and employs a staff of approximately 375.

Not the best place to be during this period of cuts - Viglens customer base is Public Sector. Managing contracts there could be a bit of a no-win situation for Stella over the next year or two.

I think youre right. Viglen will see a downturn. And LS was looking for the best candidate who could stop it. Stella will definitely have a hard job, I would say an impossible one and will wish she was back at banking. But on the other hand of all the candidates for this kind of job, perhaps she would be best. Although I think Joanna could do it as well.

Apparently they're the major supplier to about half of the universities in the country.

Read the about page on their (rather web 1.0) website. Its a pretty massive enterprise but I suspect theyre telling a few porkies.

So after all these weeks Stella got the job.
What job? Why was it not spoken about on the programme?
In previous years there has been a brief mention of "the job" but this year Sugar said nothing.
Maybe the job will be disappointing to Stella, the winning candidate.
In the past the new apprentice has nearly always left before a year is up.
Stella has a family, I wonder how long she will last.

Stella has already been working for Lordsugar for the last year. Most successful candidates tend to stay for 2 years or so; some longer.

Not exactly glamorous and suspect she will go on to bigger and better things before too long.

I can only think of Michelle leaving before the year was up...

She now has to work for her interviewers/interrogators. I also believe that LS is thinking of going out of viglen and will sell it soon. He must have had someone doing her job till now. It is most likely not earning much at the moment. Its not really a job for genius. She should start thinking now what her career will be next year. He expects her I suppose to shore it up. Not a job for Stella. She deserves better. Joanna could also do it and better.

The job sounds very dull to me, I'd be surprised if she sticks it for long.

Viglen used to sell to the home market and had a decent reputation. I seem to remember them regularly appearing as contenders in computer magazines as good buys. it was a British-Asian business to start with.

I have a feeling that something went wrong a few years ago though. perhaps that was Amstrad buying it!

I bought a Viglen in 1989. I had it for many years because I just upgraded bits of it as needed. It started off as a 1Mb/80Mb 16MHz 286 and ended up as a 512MB/4GB 200MHz Pentium. I think the last bit of it to go was an IO card in around 2002.

Anyone can edit wikipedia with what they think is true. It's an open forum. Who knows what Stellla has been up to. Only her.
