Anton closely followed by Brian Conley, could Tess go as well and let her place go to Claudia.

Vernon is quite possibly the worst, most irritating and most unfunny TV presenter in the UK. They would be mad to have him on Strictly - he would ruin it and drive the older viewers away without attracting any new ones.

If they are going to replace Brucie then anyone else would be better. Just cos he is married to Tess Daly is no qualification at all.

To be honest, ever since series one the same story has been circulating. The same 'quotes' from various anonymous members of the production staff:

"It's been great having Brucie back on TV but we hope he doesn't carry on as we really need young blood to push the show forward"

"Two series is probably enough, he's had his TV comeback but we're hoping for someone else next year"

"Fantastic for Brucie doing three years on the spin but he's getting a bit doddery now and we hope he'll decide to retire on top...."

"He's been wonderful but it's beginning to take its toll now on him and he's very tired. We hope to have someone younger next year"

.....the story is almost as old as Forsyth himself.

Couldn't think of anything worse cannot stand him or Tess. Full revamp with new presenters.

I have no problem with Tess Daly, she seems to have "grown up" into quite a good presenter whilst on the programme.

She and Vernon Kay seem to have got over his misbehaviour earlier in the year but if they both worked on the programme together there would always be the worry that it could happen again and they would then lose both presenters as it would be very difficult for either to continue.

Perhaps in some years time but he always seem rather immature to me.

Another problem is that anyone with a regional accent always gets a lot of moans from Southerners, two with Northern accents might be too much for them.

The only worry is that Vernon seems ideal for many programmes on the BBC1 channel.

I think this would be ridiculous given what we know about Vernon's texts. They can't present them as the perfect couple anymore.

I'm northern and I agree about the accents.

The point with their accents, (particularly Tess as I'll never watch Vernon Kay) is that it's affected.
They've both been in the business working in the south for long enough to "speak the language."

I'm aware that some entertainers from the "provinces" do retain a regional accent, but particularly with Tess it's noticeable that her "northern vowel sounds" which she deliberately accentuates, disappear if she's excited or is having to read the auto-cue quickly to make up for lost time.
I'm a southerner, but I've lived and worked in the Manchester area for forty years, so I do know what I'm talking about.

The only consideration for this job if Bruce packs in is Anton.
If either Vernon or John Barrowman get the job people will stop watching in droves. The BBC are well out of touch if they are considering either. VK is a talentless waste of space who just loves the sound of his own voice and JB, whilst he has some talent, has had his day.

I have never got the impression that she "put on" the accent, she might be able to suppress it if needed but it is not uncommon for people to do that in normal life.

Lots of people move to another part of the country and never lose their accent.

The only one I always feel increased her accent for effect is Cilla Black but perhaps she was also deliberately suppressing it when she started - someone originally from Liverpool was interviewed on the radio a few months ago and said they never remember hearing there the strong Scouse that is common now on TV.

Unfortunately much the same can be said of Anton, he is OK in small doses but I cannot imagine him presenting the whole programme. He was starting to get really annoying by the end of Question of Spot last night.

I'd put her alongside Neil Oliver in the affected accent stakes.

In earlier documentaries in which he had small parts, there was just a trace of a Scottish accent. Now, if it gets any broader the BBC will have to start using subtitles as they do for many Scottish or north-eastern English accents.

What about Eammon Holmes? He's a jolly chap who would be a surprise choice.

You do often find that when people are starting out they will make efforts to tone down any accent but then speak more naturally once they are established.

Never found any problem understanding Neil Oliver, always puzzled when I read that people "cannot understand" someone with a fairly mild accent. It has to be a really thick accent, and more into dialect, before I have had any problems.

He's worse than Vernon Kay and more self absorbed than John Barrowman so NO

Then what would happen? Would all viewers south of Watford Gap choke on their jellied eels or something?

Tess is more an accomplished auto-cue reader than a presenter.
"Off script" she often puts her foot in her mouth.
