So you hate Chris because he's a Tory? Reverse snobbery.

By the way how do you know Stella isn't a Tory?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that at least 99% of people who grew up on council estates aren't.

I'm willing to bet that she is: self-reliance, determination, perseverance... aren't these qualities championed and lauded by the Tories?

And judging somebody on the basis of their accent is one of the worst aspects of bigotry there is.

You maybe right. Saying that I grew up on a council estate in East London and have always voted Tory, so I'm obviously one of a few exceptions.

Inherit? No, my logic is that if you're living or have lived on a council estate you probably wouldn't be supporting a party that generally tries to make the rich richer and the poor poorer.

Which is exactly what the Labour party managed to do during their time in Government - albeit perhaps without trying.

And if you really thought about it, your assertion doesn't really make sense: if the poor vote Labour and the rich vote Tory, which party has more vested interest in people becoming poorer?

LOL, I'd never thought of it like that.

Why does it matter if Chris is a tory? People have the right to vote for whoever they want

Stella was out of line saying he wasn't passionate enough I thought

Exactly. Under New Lab the gap actually widened between rich and poor, so bang goes this myth that Labour represent the poor.

Speaking as somebody who grew up on a council estate throughout most of my childhood, the Labour party never appealed to me. Yes we were poor and my Mum struggled with doing 2 jobs, but both me and my Mum have voted for the party that is best for the country and our people, not a party that benefited us as individuals. It was my Mum's fault we ended up in that position because her shop business failed anyway.

My perception of other people on the council estate I lived was they were people who didn't want to work and voted Labour because they offered more in benefits. Does that not sum up the selfishness of these people.

I dont know which party Stella votes for, that's her business. I dont even know why the OP thinks Chris is a Tory. I have not heard any of the candidates talk about politics.

And I'd say that is nonsense or else why would places like Basildon and Gravesend be Tory?

It depends on where you want to end up rather than where you start. I grew up in a crappy area just off the Old Kent Road and I, like Stella, knew from a young age that I wanted more out of life. I now live in a beautiful cottage in a lovely village and have voted Tory all of my adult life.

Not necessarily. I grew up on a council estate and don't vote Labour. Labour, especially the likes of Blair and Mandleson pretend that everyone should be equal but in the background they make themselves rich. John Prescott is another example. Snout in the trough as soon as possible for as long as possible. Just because Chris has a posh accent doesn't mean he votes Tory. Ed Miliband has a public school accent and I would guess he doesn't vote Tory.

I've lived on four council estates since 1973 and get heartily sick of the assumption that we are all flat capped, beer swilling lefties or poor buggers who couldnt afford a posh house.
My parents had to relocate to one as my father had to leave the fire brigade due to ill health, we had been given a free flat on the fire stations due to his officer status. So they chose to rent. Since then I have lived around London on estates and I have never ever come across any trouble and I have always had good, hard working neighbours.
In 1979 my then husband was eligible for a flat as he had lived in the borough all his life, we were able to live and work in central london and chose to rent, not to save for a mortage. Well little did I know that eventually this would label me and my family by the media and various others as scum and workshy people. I apologise for letting the property values plumet because I live next door to a posh residential street as apparently I was told once.
I'm also fed up of these political labels, Apparently all tories are rich, souless idiots and all left wing people are lovely altruistic saints, its ridiculous left and right wing have their degrees of extremity and it is also possible to have some conservative opinions but some left wing leanings too.
I am now living in a housing association flat in central london and some people aer still amazed that there is social housing right next to parliament! Oh and I live in social housing and have a posh accent! How did that happen!

I didn't say anything about Labour. You could vote Lib Dem, or not vote at all. All I said was that if you come from a council estate and vote Tory you probably don't exist, or (as it turns out) if you do exist, you're a bit of a hypocrite IMO.

Who are you to accuse people who live on council estates of hypocrisy for voting Conservative. You've clearly not read or understood a word people from these backgrounds are telling you. Thanks to the Tories, or more specifically Margaret Thatcher who I assume you loathe, my Mum was offered the chance to buy her council house for about £40,000. It's now worth over £300,000.

To be honest I am not happy with the Tory party now and these days I don't vote. But under Thatcher both my Mum (who was poor) and my Dad (who was a working class London cabbie) benefited from her policies. Ironically it was Ken Livingstone (I assume you adore) and his GLC who was punishing working classes like my Dad with high taxes until Thatcher abolished the GLC.

So you revel in your own ignorance and hatred if that suits your argument.

Again, I was talking about Tories now, in light of David Cameron's policies. Milk Snatcher was before my time, so I can't say I have any strong views towards her.
