December 20th 2001, it was probably the darkest half hour in the history of Emmerdale and proved to be one of the lowest points of the 00's.

Nobody thought it would ever happen and the village has just never been the same since.

Annie Sugden may have been the Queen of the dales but 9 years ago tonight we said goodbye to the Princess of the dales...

Oh I loved Kathy. I was really gutted when she left Emmerdale. I really wish they would bring her back and her new husband and baby girl wasnt it.

Yes it would be delightful but unlikely seen as the evil Steve Frost or whatever he's calling himself these days is now in charge of Emmerdale.

I don't have many enemies but him I make an exception for him.

In all seriousness, she was whiney and very tiresome and I didn't rate Malandra Burrows as much of an actress alongside the others in Emmerdale.
She wasn;t an awful actress but certainly not worthy of legendary status. She only gained that through longetivity imo.

The character grated on me. One minute she was sickeningly sweet and honey and the next an annoying whine. two extremes which I hated equally.

Where would she fit in? Aside from Betty, does she really have any friends left in Emmerdale?

Yeah this was such a big mistake. Steve Frost was the cause. It was good that she returned for Seth's funeral in 2005. Id bring her back with a hunky Australian husband maybe played by Jason Donavan.

As we pause for thought on this sad, sad night lets listen to a very special piece of music, written especially in tribute to Kathy of Emmerdale...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EAk3Kr1Vg0

Yes the World's Number 1 Kathy fan, Marti Pellow was so outraged by rubbish producer Steve Frost's plan to axe the longest serving female character of the time, that he rang Emmerdale demanding to be part of her final episode. As he serenaded Kathy out of the village with a song he wrote especially for her, the fans were treated to flashbacks of Kathy's many, many glorious moments in the show.
