5 - there were 6 pairs and six episodes, but there were two eps this week - Monday night and Tuesday night.
The whole thing was a bit of a mess, and only having six contestants didn't really help. I understand it was to make a pilot series but they only trained for 5 weeks before it started and then 5 weeks of the show means that by the final they've only been skating for 10 weeks, so the standard was only as high as the first few weeks of DoI rather than something you'd see in the finale. They did make them do a lot harder stuff than you would see so early on DoI though.
The scoring system was very confusing too - because of the time zone difference in America, they couldn't open the phone lines for voting and then eliminate somebody based on that unless they had a separate results show on a different night, which they didn't want to do. So you were combining judges scores with viewer votes from the week before - so the votes weren't at all based on that weeks' routine, it was totally done by popularity.
Add to that the fact that last week Brandon dropped out through illness so there was no elimination, the results on Monday night's show were a combination of a) last week's judges scores b) this week's judges scores c) the viewer vote from two weeks ago and last week and d) the scores from the "group skate" earlier this week. I was so confused during it all!
Fred and Rebecca totally deserved to win, but I was absolutely gobsmacked when Jonny and Brooke were eliminated on Monday night. As was Vernon!
I hope (but doubt) it comes back, but if it does they need to make a lot of changes!
