JAILED EastEnder Phil Mitchell is returning to the screen - but Dirty Den can relax!

Tough guy Phil - played by Steve McFadden - won't be going near Walford. He will star in a major spin-off series called AKA Phil Mitchell.

Viewers last saw Phil going to prison after he was set up by Dirty Den. But in the new series early next year he is to escape and assume a new identity.

He rules out an EastEnders return. "I thought I'd miss it - but I don't."

Don't know if anyone mentioned this but I just had the urge to create an EastEnders related thread! Will anyone be watching this spin-off series? I must say I think it will be interesting. Especially as I thought Phil was going to return to Walford at Christmas which looks set to be untrue...

This can't be true. The last we saw of Phil was Ricky driving him out of the sqaure at Christmas!

It would seem all the good characters dont' want to return to Walford. I think the writers botched up Phil's departure from the Square anyway, I mean how could they write him back in if he's on the run?

Exactly...I honestly think this may have saved the EE writers' blushes. We've debated about this many times over the past year, and no one can find a way that he could come back without it looking UTTERLY ridiculous.

No loss anyway, whatever the truth. I never liked Phil at all.

I think that they shud send phil to Brazil to be with Peggy and Grant, cos the Mitchells are the best family in soap, especially when peggy is on the war path......

I don't know, I think I'd like to see Phil return. Compared to Andy he really was an impressive local villain, at times. How they'd explain his comeback would be another matter though..

I did like him but more for his storylines with Lisa, Mel and Kathy, his drink problem, and when he sold the Vic for a fiver to Dan Sullivan, they were great storylines. HIs departure storyline would have been good, but by then EastEnders had been tainted by the ridiculous return of Den. HIs departure storyline would have been so much better with a character like Dan or Steve Owen, who's own demise was great too.

I would love to see him back but his return would surely be ridiculous, it would seem theres no way back for him in a credible storyline

lol, good point.

I would like to see Phil return, and get rid of the laughable gangster that is Andy! But how can Phil possible return when the police are after him!? Perhaps they won't notice? I mean at christmas nobody noticed him in the van, or when Ricky drove him out of the square in full view of everyone! lol.

lol EastEnders is notorious for doing stupid things like that. LIsa's escape from Walford the first time was the same, she sat right up front with Gus, in this big blue van, in the Square that was heaving with people, right underneath the kitchen window of the Vic, where she stared out the window and up? And Phil's was no better.

Alan45 you are right, it didnt' stop them bringing back Den. If Den could come back after he was to be killed if he so much as set foot on British soil, then I'm sure Walford police have forgotten all about Phil. Marsden has probably fallen in love with a fellow female copper by now anyways lol

Yeah. AT least they got Janine's right.. Ok, so she did get caught.. but it was a great escape ATTEMPT. Let's not forget Lisa and Phil were hardly ever the brainy type who took the time to think things through. Their blatant exits were pretty much to be expected from them..

That wasn't not arrested? Tell me what that means so I can argue with you.

Oh ok then.. Actually I don't think was a bad move. It turned out a great plot twist. It was so just that when Janine finally told the truth, the honest full truth, Pat still didn't believe her. Allowing her to be arrested for a "murder that wasn't", was a much better idea than just having her go down for Barry's, don't you think? Otherwise Laura's exit would've been excruciatingly boring too. Janine's escape wouldn't have worked so well either as the whole inscription on the wall thing wouldn't have mattered. I think EE got it very right on that one. That eppy was the last really great one they've had recently.

#Sorry about the grammatical error there leaving out the full stop. I thougt the capital letter would have indicated a new sentence. Obviously not. But at least BBC Blob stuck up for me on this occasion
