Hi great to have found the forum. Maybe someone out there can help me. This company Watch British TV Abroad (also goes by the name as Channel Green TV) offer British TV anywhere in the world through a set top box that connects to the internet and onto the TV. I thought to subscribe to it and buy a box but I have heard from different sources that it might be illegal and will probably be closed down. This is a problem. I requested some clarification on this point and was provided with the below response. Please please can anyone advise further. thanks
"Our solution is totally legal for the following reasons:
1. We have all the necessary licenses from OFCOM (Office of Communications) to stream IPTV content within Europe. OFCOM 277.
2. We work with our lawyers to continually assess compliance such as the AVMS directive (see below). We work with lawyers with expertise of IPR, Broadcasting, and European and National laws.
3. We do not encrypt content that is delivered un-encrypted.
4. We will not un-encrypt content that has been delivered encrypted. For example no SKY content will be available.
5. We do not change or “alter” the content or add advertising. The content is delivered exactly as it is in the UK.
6. Television without Frontiers Directive (TVFD) becomes AVMS. The new Audiovisual Media Services Directive which also covers on-demand services must be applied by EU governments by 19 December 2009 at the latest. This law fully supports our business model.
7. Free to Air UK content, such as BBC and ITV are transmitted with no encryption for UK viewers and we deliver this content to our customers with exactly the same conditions. The content providers may not agree with our solution although it is technically and legally acceptable (in Spain). They might not like you watching their channels outside the UK, but there is little they can do about it."
