Oh, I loved The Stand. Need to add this to my list too.

I started reading The Perks Of Being A Wallflower months ago but put it down. I really liked it but I started at my new job and didn't have time. I finished it last night. I'll definately read it again, it was wonderful

I'm looking forward to the film adaption especially as the author is directing.

I'm currently reading "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafón and it is fantastic. Not a book that I would normally have chosen but was a book swap with a friend. Found it really hard to put down this morning in order to come to work...

I was in two minds about ordering this from Amazon. It seems to split opinion; I know many books do but this one seemed particularly split down the middle. Some reviewers said it's thrilling and they couldn't put it down but the (just as many) negative reviews put me off. Quite a few said it was bad writing with poor characterisation and you can tell Ruiz Zafón writes for young adults etc. However it mght be one I try and pick up in the library at some stage.

Obviously (or perhaps not) I'm reading the English translation. I would say it's very well translated but (and I don't know if this is the same in Spanish) it's very modern despite being set in the 40s. This hasn't spoilt it for me though...

Hope you all enjoy it! Would be interesting to see how you think it compares to The Stand.

Lizzy you've got your payback, I've just bought Gone, it looks really good! So I think we're even now.

Small Island - Andrea Levy

I had to read it for AS Level English so the copy that I am reading is annotated. It isn't as annotated as I thought it was though so I'm not trailing off reading the bits that I've added

Just got "The Time Travellers Guide to Elizabethan England" - looking forward to reading it as I loved the guide to Medieval England.

London Under, by Peter Ackroyd. Much as I admire him, this interesting book, about what is under London's pavements could have easily been incorporated into London: The Biography, thereby saving the reader a few quid on what is quite a slim volume.

The Misremembered Man, by Christina McKenna. Not very far in, but so far looks to be a typically lyrical Irish novel of the type I love.

I've actually finished it now but I was reading The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency which I quite enjoyed. I am reading about 10 books at the moment, need to stop starting new ones and finish what I'm reading.

I'm about 70% of the way through 'A Cold Dark Place' by Gregg Olsen. Very enjoyable who-dunnit, although some chapters go off on a complete tangent and don't seem linked to the main story but I'm sure it'll all come together in the end.

Got quite a few books lined up so hoping to get that finished today and on to the next one. I seem to be alternating between a crime thriller and a post apocalyptic/dstyopian type novel at the moment.

The Man Who Broke Into Auschwitz - Denis Avey's account of the horror he witnessed during his time as a WWII POW.

Two thirds the way through. Harrowing and gripping, a must-read IMO.

Did you enjoy it? I think I'd like to try it (the book! Not a young man's passage :-o) so interested to hear what you made of it.
