Just finished reading all of Stuart Macbride's books featuring Detective Logan Macrae - set in Aberdeen and very good - I would highly recommend him - only downside for me is having to wait until 2013 for the next one

Just finished The Snowman (Jo Nesbo) and it was very good although I did have an inkling about who the culprit was fairly early on. Still, it was interesting learning the hows and the whys of it all.

One thing puzzled me though:

Spoiler
What was the significance of the mould inspector? Why did it end with him?

I didn't get that bit either. And I saw the culprit coming a mile off,

I'm currently reading 'Till We Have Faces: A Myth Retold' by C S Lewis.

Excellent book. I've read the next one too. If you like that you'll like Joe Abercrombie books too.

I'm currently reading The Crimson Petal and the White.

Hothouse flower by Lucinda Riley - although I'm enjoying the story itself, it's quite poorly written with some grammatical errors and language that doesn't really flow.

I read that a few months back and thought the same way as you. Everything i've read recently has been bleak, i need a nice cheerful book to read.

just finished Andrea Levy's-Small Island and really enjoyed it, so much so I want to read more of her books.

Just started Sebastian Barry's- The Secret Scripture not sure about it at the moment, but I am only one chapter in so hoping that It will grip me.

Picked it up in the book exchange box in work, so did not pay for it, which is brillant. In fact I picked up Small Island this way as well.

Book exchange boxes in work are a brillant idea. You get some really old books/ones no one likes, that stay there for ever, but sometimes you can pick up some real gems

Oh do stay with The Secret Scripture - I personally loved it so much, and it take a while to get into it at the start, please post your opinions on it after - I would definitely be interested!

Jump - Jilly Cooper

Having never read a jilly cooper and my mum telling there would lots of sex in it ..there isn't any! I do want to finish because I am enjoying it but it's ridiculously long and there are literally about 50 characters who all appear in the same scene together that I'm finding it difficult to keep up with who is who! and it's about horse racing ,something I have no interest in other than a bet once year on the national!

Why am even trying to read it!?

I didn't like that one as much as her other books. There was something missing. The sad stuff didn't get me like it usually does, and the humour was virtually non-existant

Currently reading Killing Me Softly by Nicci French.

Really enjoying it. Much like the TV series so far, though I believe some of the book is different.

I'd be interested too. I also loved it. So beautifully written, and poignant.
