Having never read a jilly cooper and my mum telling there would lots of sex in it ..there isn't any! Why am even trying to read it!?”

Cause your mum told you there was lots of sex in it!

I have just started Peter Robinson- Gallows View

Revelation by C.J. Sansome, another ripping good yarn, 16th century London just jumps off the page.

I've got the latest Robert Crais book to read next.

Next one in the pile is Gertrude - Herman Hesse. I'm slowly working my way through Hesse I find them fascinating but not terribly easy reads.

Hi, I heard bad things about it too. But the book was lying about at work so I thought why not! I'm about half way through. There is no messing about at the start, murder one before the prologue is done! It's also a Monkeewrench book kind of harks back to Want to Play? and you really must know the background. It's no good picking this one up if it's your first PJ Tracy book.

Worth giving it go.

Thankyou,I have really enjoyed the Monkeewrench series, which is why I have been putting off reading it,incase it lets me down after I've been waiting about two years for it to finally be published!!

Finished Saffina Deforges's e-crime novel Sugar and Spice. Brave attempt. Felt uncomfortable at times .. the subject matter - paedophiliac crime is described in sordid detail. The book has been thoroughly researched, but its presented as a dissertation on paedophilia framed in the context of a crime novel. Not for the narrow minded and easily offended!

Finished Jon Macgregor's "Even the Dogs". Another uncomfortable read. The subject matter being the death of an alcoholic whose nearest "friends" are junkies including his own daughter. Brilliantly written, there are some quite brilliant passages which to me are among the finest in literature. It takes a while to get into the idiosyncratic style, but you'll be richly rewarded for persevering.

Currently reading Somme Mud by E.P.F. Lynch. Finding it fascinating so far with the story of a young ANZAC and his experiences during the war.

There are some astonishing sections in this diary. Private Beatson was a remarkable young man.

Harlan Coben - Play Dead.

I've only read about 50 pages, but I'm finding it utterly rubbish so far. I won't be thanking my friend profusely for lending it to me. In her defence she did say his other books are better, but I doubt I'll give them a go either.

She's right, they are,I am not a massive fan of this book, but am a fan of his books in general, especially the Myron Bolitar series, they are nothing like "play dead",and I would definately recommend them, you might be pleasantly suprised

Play Dead was his first ever novel, so I expect he's learnt a lot in 20 or so years.

He wrote a little note in the latest edition saying that he is very fond of it, despite all it's flaws

I've just started re-reading Checkmate by Malorie Blackman. It's the last book in the Noughts & Crosses trilogy. I did start reading it ages ago, but put it down to finish Eclipse in time for the film release, so I've started it again (I didn't mark where I'd left off)
