I was tempted to pick that for the "You can only recommend ONE book" thread. It's superb. So is the follow-up World Without End.

Currently reading Target by Simon Kernick.

That sounds interesting, I've put it on my list which means I'll probably get to it in a couple of years

I've just finished Jasper Fforde's "Fourth Bear". I do love his books, he is totally mental but in the most appealing/engaging way!

I'm dithering about what to read at the moment as I'm in the unusual(for me) position of having a fair number of books to choose from. It's either going to be Robin Hobb's "Fool's Fate", Bryce Courtenay's "Tandia" or a Robert Goddard...... probably!

I'm about to finish Jonathan Franzen's "Freedom" and I must say that i'm quite disappointed:sleep:
"The Corrections" was just great but his new baby doesn't touch me at all.

Freedom was dreadful, in my opinion. I hadn't read Corrections and don't think I will now on the basis on Freedom. I just found the whole thing quite boring, rambling. I didn't care about any of the characters. In fact, I found most of them quite annoying. I wanted to give up at several points but said I'd persevere in case it got better...it didn't

Aww man, The Corrections is one of my favourite books. Freedom is in my 'to read' pile don't tell me it's shite.

Finished Stephen King's 'The Stand' at the weekend, after 8 days of hardcore reading! Absolutely amazing book.

Now I'm reading 'The Sleeping Doll' by Jeffrey Deaver. I started it months ago and only read the first chapter, for some reason I didn't carry on with it but now have it on my Kindle and I'm really enjoying it.

So am I ... just started it today

Finished The Scarecrow by Michael Connelly last night. A good read, but not one of his best I thought.

Come back to the 211 in 2011 thread Sid, just copy down every book you have mentioned in this thread !

Ha ha very true! Though I'm kind of hoping that the sequel might be shorter I did enjoy the style of narration though.

I'll probably start Case Histories by Kate Atkinson today as my mum gave it to me a few days ago. It's not my usual thing.

I've ordered An Experiment in Love by Hilary Mantel and Beauty by Robin McKinley using some Waterstones points. How long they'll take to get here is another matter!

I haven't watched the TV series and haven't read any of these books before, but not bad, so far.

I was on holiday last year and picked up a Harlan Coben book. Went and parked myself on the sunbed and after the first chapter I realised it all sounded a bit familiar .......

Just finished Stephen Booth's "Lost River" .. At one stage I was wondering if he should have named it "the Lost Plot" .. This is the novel where DS Fry leaves Derbyshire to face her demons back in Birmingham. The Brum plot was convoluted and far too much descriptive writing about the city's environs and architecture.. a bit repetitive in parts.
Back in Derbyshire Acting DS Cooper was trying to see whether there was more to the drowning of a girl in a river in Dovedale than a tragic accident. Thankfully this part of the plot kept my interest. The Birmingham plot eventually falls into place .. So overall another competent addition to the series.
