Pillars of the Earth - it's fantastic. I am going to bed a lot earlier to get a few more hours reading in. I get totally immersed in it.

The Girl Who Played with Fire - Stieg Larsson

I finally read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, after meaning to for a long time but for some reason putting it off. Noticing how cheap it was on the Kindle I downloaded it, and had finished it in a day. I then downloaded the second and third books to keep on the Kindle and read at a later point, and started reading Little Women - but I was itching to carry on with Lisbeth Salander so have postponed LW for now

what the night knows - Dean Koontz

Pretty good so far, havent read a koontz for years, they got really bad but this one sounded good so thought I would give it a go.

Flying Saucers, by C K Jung.

This book was the origin of the "ghost" theory of UFOs, and came well before either Von Daniken or Jaques Vallee ......and more recently, John Mack.

(in other words, whatever ghosts are, UFOs are "the same stuff" ....)

Death Dance - Linda Fairstein

Just finished 'Heartstone' by C J Sansom, the latest in the Matthew Shardlake series.

I'm an avid fan of this series and I wasn't left disappointed by this installment. For me, the greatest feature of Sansom's writing as always is his ability to bring to life the Tudor times with such authenticity that I swear that I can almost smell like like I've gone back almost 500 years in time. The description of the terrifying events at the conclusion of the main part of the story really moved me, giving a small glimpse of the ordeals suffered by those at war. Again, as with his previous novels, parallels with modern day events can be drawn if you wish to, and when I read the Shardlake books I am always struck by how much has changed in the last 500 years and yet how some things are still so very similar.

Shardlake's brief dialogue with a young Princess Elizabeth at the start of the book is electrifying and makes me think that the author plans continuing the Shardlake series into her reign - here's hoping!

I think that is possibly the best thing about reading, how much you can just get caught up and want to read more

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Asked for this for Christmas as I wanted to see if it lived up to its hype. So far so good.

Just finished 'Birdsong' by Sebastian Faulkes. Very good, depiction of life in the trenches of WW1 was bleak to say the least.Very thought provoking, certainly made me apprecaite the scarifices made by those caught up in that devastating conflict.

Have to agree. I loved The Damned United, and knew this would be different, but really it is twaddle. Very disappointed.

Someone has given me his Tokyo Year Zero, which they hated, so I might give that a go sometime, but do not have high hopes.

I've only just started it but once you get passed the opening chapters explaining the origins of the book (this is the abridged version) it is just like the film. I find myself sat there on the train with a big grin on my face as i recall scenes. I love books that can do that to me.

"The Snowman" Jo Nesbo.

I don't normally read crime fiction. However, there was a lot of hype in relation to this book, in particular claiming that Nesbo was the next Steig Larrson, that I decided to give it a try.

So far so good. Like with the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I don't find translated books easy to read - they lack flow or something like that and that is not to be disparaging against the translator.

Very grusome.

I've just started this, finished the beginning bit with Stephen and Isabelle. Have put it side for a couple of days though as wasn't in the mood for something so 'deep'.

Read a Song For Arbonne by Guy Gavriel Kay, and reading Knight Of The Demon Queen by Barbara Hambly (whilst still struggling through the two books I last listed....)

..... stil ploughing through Flying Saucers ....... now, C K Jung was a great man (and maybe a Nazi Sympathiser!), but, be that as it may, when he suggests that circular and lenticular UFOs represent the female and male sexual organs, respectively, I laugh out loud ............

Under The Eagle by Simon Scarrow (usually read on the commute to uni)
Master and Commander by Patrick O' Brien
3 Para by Patrick Bishop


Master and Commander hasn't really made an impact on me,but do like the characters of Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin.Under The Eagle is one that I really like at the moment,but do feel there is a little too much expositon and unecessary dialogue.Only just started 3 Para so haven't formed a proper opinon of it but I'm a fan of real life military experiences so hoping I'll come to like it eventually.
