Finished Tony Benn's More Time for Politics which I thoroughly enjoyed. I don't agree with all his politics but there is no doubt he is an insightful, passionate and sincere man. Very funny and ofthen very prophetic.

Now back to 19th Century Gothic with M. R. James Count Magnus and Other Ghost Stories.... at least it's short.

Almost finished He Who Fears the Wolf, by Karin Fossum. She really is very good. If you like Mankell, Jo Nesbo etc, you will like her Inspector Sejer series.

About to start Booker shortlisted Jamrach's Menagerie, by Carol Birch.

Just finished 'The Langoliers' from the Stephen King compilation 'Four Past Midnight'. Will save the other 3 stories for another time. I remembered watching the Langoliers on tv years ago but as is usually the case, the book is much better.

Just about to start 'The Bestseller' by Stephen Leather. Quite enjoyed 'The Basement' by the same author so looking forward to this one.

Celebrity by Marina Hyde. It's brilliant. If she and Charlie Brooker had kids, they'd be the funniest and angriest kids on the planet, and if they took over then the world would be a much better place.

The chapter on Sharon Stone's contribution to the Middle East peace process is ALMOST as good as the chapter on $cientology. It really is a splendid book.

I'm currently reading Virginia Woolf's diaries. I'm really enjoying it (as someone who has read all of her novels) though I haven't picked it up in a few days. Easy to dip in and out of.

'When God Was A Rabbit' (Sarah Winman)

I'm about 70 pages from the end and I can honestly say it's one of the best books I've read in a long time. Funny, sad, beautifully written with interesting characters I really care about.

I don't want it to end, but next on my list is 'In Praise of Older Women' then I'm going to get stuck into Murakami's 'IQ84' which I've been waiting for so long to read!

I loved When God Was A Rabbit, so beautifully written.

I finished The Accidental Proposal by Matt Dunn - it wasn't as funny as it was billed to be.

I'm going to read The Weight of Silence next.

Interesting- I keep seeing it, and my gf read it recently (on the recommendation of one of her best friends, who she usually agrees 99% of the time with on books) who'd said pretty much what you guys are saying, and that she'd love it. She really didn't.

I'm now intrigued- seems very Marmitey, and that always makes me want to find out which side of the fence I fall.

It's quite an unusual book (and a little implausible but the author's note at the end addresses that). I found it quite poetic in places which is why I enjoyed it so much.

What do you think?

I couldn't get into it. I think I'll try again, though, because I know lots of people who loved it.

Currently reading Esther Freud - Lucky Break, about young people starting drama school. Fun, easy read.

excellent short story. He is very good at short stories, cuts out his tendancy to not know when stop writing.

I just read Julian Barnes' "The Sense of an Ending", and it was pretty awesome... about half way through I was unsure about it, but by the end I thought it was pretty good

The Affair.

Reacher books are past their best for me but they're still good enough to tune in.

Love that series- He Who Fears the Wolf was the first one I read, but When the Devil Holds the Candle is probably my favourite.
