I finished The Hunger Games: Catching Fire yesterday. Another cracking read, really enjoying this trilogy. What I like is how well written it is.

Now reading A Girl Like Me by some chick-lit author. Going to get The Hunger Games: Mockingjay out of the library at work tomorrow so I can read it this side of Christmas. I'm going to be gutted when the trilogy is over!!

Finished Ishiguro's The Unconsoled. I can't say we got along that well. A level of irritation is obviously intended but I felt it went round and round in circles. Perhaps I'm just not that sophisticated a reader but with a lack of likable characters and a strong narrative I struggle, no matter how beautiful the prose.

Anyway, onwards and upwards with Henry James - What Maisey Knew.

Just finished "Tandia" by Bryce Courtenay, (all of 900 pages!) the follow uo to "The Power Of One"
I enjoyed both immensely.

Now reading "The Colour Of Law" by Mark Gimenez, which seems a very promising read

I read both of those at the beginning of the year, they really are a good read, uncomfortable reading at times but thought provoking and excellent. He is one of my favourite writers at the moment and have read a few of his with a few more in my pile to be read.

I have just finished 'The man from Beijing' by Henning Mankell.

It started very strongly and then drifted badly, before coming back together at the end a little.

My first Mankell, and from how it started I was a little disapointed. I've been given two more of his for my birthday so will persevere.

About to start Bad Signs, by R J Ellory, and as it is a bit chunky to carry around, also starting Into the Darkest Corner, by Elizabeth Haynes.

Not expecting either to be very cheerful!

Where Three Roads Meet by Salley Vickers - Retelling of Oedipus where Freud and a visitor discuss the Oedipus story, Freud and his theories. Interesting interpretation but a bit mechanical so far.

i've seen that recommended before but not read it yet, it's on my list! One thing about him being based in Australia is that the books are very popular here and so you can pick up good quality second hand copies in second hand bookshops and if you're lucky in charity shops, which is a real boon as new books are hugely expensive here, although there does seem to be some movement downward, probably due to the influx of e-readers and/or more people buying their books abroad.

Have recently finished two of Peter Tremayne's Sister Fidelma's novels 'Shroud for the Archbishop' and 'Absolution by Murder'. I love historic novels with a whodunnit theme.

For a light read, I enjoy Karen Miller, Karen Maitland and Dean Koontz - any of them.

I have also just ordered Stephen King's new book '11.22.63 ' which seems to run along the lines of the film 'The Butterfly Effect'.

Just finishing The Go-Between for the umpteenth time. I've got Dicken's Christmas Carol lined up for its annual outing and am just waiting for an appropriately wintry afternoon.

A future must-buy is The Death of Kings, the sixth in Bernard Cornwall's Alfred the Great saga. I'm being tight and waiting for the paperback to come out in May!

I love the Go-Between, innocence lost is one of my favourite literary themes.
