Will Humax 8000t be liable to problems at digital changeover?

Hi all. I know the 8000t (160 GB upgraded from 80GB) is an old box now, but it has proved to be a great recording machine for us, despite limitations of one tuner / slow EPG load etc.

My main question is: I've been reading about folks with 9200's, and to some degree 9150's and 9300's having all sorts of issues when their area has gone right over to Digital and how Humax have had to recently provide a new firmware to sort out the issues. Our area, Central Midlands, is due to change approximately August 2011. Is the 8000t ike to collapse in a heap (proverbially speaking!) rendering it unusable?

On a 2nd point, albeit lesser point, I might have been contemplating getting one of the Humax Manager specials (9200 at just over £100 or the 9150 at about £80) to keep costs down, but in view of those issues mentioned above would that even be a good move?

Thanks

Issues? I'm only aware of one possible issue that had to be sorted. DSO did not cause the issue as that issue was alreay there. DSO only aggrivated the existing situation, This issue was with slow response to the remote and front panel button presses and appeared to be linked to series link and Accurate recording, neither of which the 8000T has.

There are other DS members with 8000T in there signature and post DSO locations, so the 8000T is looking OK for DSO.

I have an 8000T.

It still works, but the EPG is rather hit & miss these days. If you are tuned to the BBC multiplex, then the BBC channels get filled for the week, but other channels might only fill for that particular day.

If possible, upgrade to a newer machine, like the HDR-T2 model. I have (thanks Santa) and it is a vast improvement over previous machines. Series Record is simplicity itself.

Any updates on this on Humax 8000T.
DSO in Crystal Palace relay at Guildford. Didn't have problem finding 6 multiplexes, TV, Radio, etc.
However BBC A has allplaces identified but the screen cannot display. Other recieves around the UHF nexwork have no problem.

Did I get into DVB-T too early ?

Sounds as though your 8000T is mis-tuned. Guildford only broadcasts on 5 relevant muxies.

Until the 18th it is also broadcasting some duplicate BBC channels on mux 51 which could be upsetting you tuning.

Manually delete every BBC TV and Radio station and then manually tune to channel 43.

Mine too. In fact, beyond three days it's useless.

I use it only as an emergency spare recorder for the odd multiple program clash.

The 8000 is fine after DSO, just make sure it's tuned correctly. Due to changes a few years ago the EPG now fills for seven days for the multiplex it's tuned to and three and a half days for other multiplexes.

Hi. I originally posted this query but as has already been pointed out, I found no problems with DSO. However, we live in a fringe and hilly area. We are nearer to Sutton Coldfield - about 20 miles away but, because of hills, we are better pointing to Waltham - over 40 miles away!
The Humax hasn't been confused by this particularly but we did find the following site useful http://www.ukfree.tv/transmitters.php for identfiying what the channell frequencies were for the specific transmitter we were pointing to and doing a manual tune on just those frequencies. Helped our TV and boxes avoid any confusion.

By the way, apart from the Guide not being quick to update, still find this box really good...

I did use manual tuning to 41, 43, 47, 49, 51, 53 all identified as multiplex with station placeholders.
BBCA is identified as 43, signal ~75%, quality 100%, but all stations on this shows "no or bed signal".
Also tried the main CP transmissions with the same result.

All other 5 multiplex no problem.

Well after the umpteenth manual tuning, this time starting with BBCA (43) and going back to 41 at the end I'm now able to watch the BBC channels. Still sometimes displays "no or bad signal" though and have to toggle channels to kick it into working.

So now I look forward to April 18th
