HD? Lol anything can be hd, also the main character is a 3d model! so would be as hd as any other "modern game"

Your best bet would be to keep an eye on Channel 4 or More 4 as Father Ted is showing on those two at the mo.

So today offering is Kings Of Leon, can't see I've been impressed by any of the offerings, things like Father Ted are ok, they are the best of a really bad bunch, There has been nothing thats got me excitied, I could easily live without all the offerings,

Good for you... Fortunate that downloading them is entirely optional, isn't it.

While I cannot sympathise with those who complain about something that's been given away. I can't help thinking today's is rather cynical. Who would want to download part 1 of a Doctor Who episode and not buy part 2?

You've answered your own question.
Apple don't give these things away because they feel generous. It's all to try and generate sales.
Watch part 1 for free, buy part 2 to see what happens.

Errrm, it won the man booker prize in 2002, so hardly mediocre and not junior fiction either! Still, I'm sure yann will be thrilled you tried a couple of chapters and will be able to sleep easy

It certainly sent me to sleep - terrible book I was aware that it sold 7 million copies - but it's not for me. But I'll try a couple of chapters of any book to see if it grabs me - this sadly didn't.

Unsurprisingly, given you'd already slated it before you'd even opened it.

You should maybe ask Apple for your money back.

I wasn't a fan of it when I read it a few years back, but I can appreciate a good writer. Sometimes it takes more than a couple of chapters to get into a good book.

All I said is that it looks mediocre, but that I would try a couple of chapters. You seem to have a strange impression that everyone has the same taste and should love them all. I incorrectly thought it was junior fiction as the book was about a teenager and zoo animals. I'm well aware it sold millions of copies and said that in my post.

Why would I ask Apple for money back on a freebie?

Are you implying that everyone has to like all of them? Why would someone listen to music they don't even like if it's free? Why should someone appreciate a game they don't like? Or a movie they've already seen? Or part 1 only of a series? These are not pairs of knitted socks from a distant aunt who shouldn't be offended. This is a marketing exercise - Apple are not a charity. The people downloading these freebies have already put a load of money Apple's way. By the way I downloaded all the freebies as they are all worth a try, and this one was the only one I didn't like. Last years offerings were far better IMHO. The bottom line is they are freebies nobody has to download them - but neither do they have like them just because they are free. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, even if it begets sarky remarks.

Last year's offerings were far better? Really?

I think that's the rose tinted glasses talking. After all, it included Lesbian Vampire Killers, which is about as bad a film can possibly get. This year's freebies have been a better selection, i'd say - especially given Mirror's Edge is tomorrows one, which is a fantastic game. Personal tastes may vary of course. Some people might be JLS fans, after all... (presumably they exist?)

Why would you expect to like all of them? That would be very odd. Almost as odd as declaring a book "very mediocre" before even opening it.

Exactly. Broken Sword Shadow of the Templars was a perfectly timed free offer because Broken Sword 2 has just been released on the App Store, so anyone who downloads the first one for free and enjoys it will probably buy the second one to see how the story continues. The games are almost like interactive animated movies - they have an adventure storyline full of puzzles.

Ah so you didn't like them then. Just goes to illustrate that it's all a matter personal likes and dislikes. All subjective. That's the point I'm making. Lesbian Vampire Killers was a just a light hearted, low budget movie with Corden and Horne. I've seen far worse !

PersonaI tastes do indeed vary. Soon got tired of Mirror's edge. All you do is jump!

Of course not - and many don't. Why would you expect them to?

Correction: "very mediocre by the looks of it". Then after a few chapters of reading it, I still felt the same. How is that odd? If a book grabs me in the first couple of chapters I cannot put it down. If it doesn't - I give up. Apple cannot be expected to please everyone with every offering, which is why there is a varied selection. So what if people don't like some of them?

It's worked in my case. I loved the first game and intend to buy the second one.

If all you do is jump, then you're doing it wrong.

Though in Canabalt you really do only jump, and that's still a great game.

Personal tastes do indeed vary. But trying to be as objective as I can, I can't see that this year is much different than last year, really, individual preferences aside. I don't understand the vitriol against Apple in the iTunes reviews at all.

Its both a ripping yarn and an easy read.
I read it in a spare few hours one weekend.

It is probably a book that most would enjoy. However if I have not forgotten its only the first couple of chapters that are hard work.
A clever trick at suckering an award or two.

Indeed! I found the same with captain correlli's mandolin and it turned out to be one of my favourite books!

The app is getting many poor reviews on Itunes.

Few people are happy.

Am I missing something? Is the point of this Mirror's Edge really just to run and jump [slide/flyingfox/climb/ your way through all these samey levels?

Most people are spoilt, over-entitled, idiots.

They do make for an hilarious read though.

Not bad getting the David Guetta videos today but they have been repeated 50 times over on Dance Nation TV.

That's it over until next year then.
