Party food ideas
Hi
Im having a gathering of about 10 ppl tomorrow night and putting a spread on. I want to move away from the expected foods, sandwiches, quiche, dips and so on, i want something that looks like it has taken a lot of thought and effort and that people will really enjoy, any ideas? Many thanks |

Homemade spicy chicken or beef kebabs served with corn on the cob & coleslaw.
Spare bibs in sauce. |

Stuffed pinwheels. Make some dough and roll it out flat. Spread a stuffing of choice lightly (or a few: cheese and onion, garlic butter and herb, tomato salsa are a few of our favs) then roll into swiss roll shape. Cut into slices (use washed dental floss like cheese wire instead of a knife to keep shape) then leave in warm spot to prove before baking.
Tortilla wrap bites: make up a tortilla wrap with chicken, salsa, guacamole and salad (you can make variations by swapping hot sauce and yoghurt for the salsa and guacamole) . Pin shut with multiple tooth picks then slice between the picks into bite size pieces. Pizza shapes: basically they're mini pizzas, but they use a scone base so you can cut them into interesting shapes to jazz them up a little. The base recipe: 100g plain flour, 4 tablespoons olive oil, seasoning to taste (I use loads of pepper and oregano) and water to bind. Roll this out like pastry dough and cut with a biscuit cutter(s), top with normal pizza toppings before baking. We love old style party food like cocktail 'hedgehogs' and vol-au-vents. So I regularly make these but with modern twists. For example don't make a hedgehog, make a bird or voodoo doll and then instead of the normal, cheese, pineapple, pickle and sausage on sticks use cherry tomatoes, cubes of chicken tikka and goats cheese or crispy duck, a chunk of cucumber and a small roll of pancake. You can do something similar for the Vol-u-vents fillings. The bonus with this stuff is you can pre-make the lot and still enjoy the party - Have fun! |

Sushi maybe? People might be turned off by the whole sushi is raw fish misconception, though.

Oh no ! Hopefully I'll move to Ireland for a second (and final) time in about a year. Yeah!
![]() I'll eat slugs instead. Slugs... bleurgh! I just saw a blackbird in my garden eating a worm, perhaps I should have shoo'ed him away so that you could have it instead! (to keep in theme with the topic... on a blini with a blob of aioli?!
