Interesting so far

I am not the biggest fan of SCD, but can someone please explain to me why Aled Jones is being nominated.

I have never seen him dance and the only thing I have seen him present is Songs of Praise and he is a former choir boy that had one known song, hardly a great CV to present a dancing show.

He might be a nice bloke, but surely someone with a "showbiz/singing and dancing" background, as there might be a perfectly good reason Aled is being nominated, but I just do not know why.

He was 4th on series 2.

Brucie will still do it in 2011. After that it will probably be Norton.

Despite the criticism he receives on here I will be sorry when Brucie finally retires from SCD.

My personal fave to replace him would be Graham Norton. I'm sure there are other good choices out there but, I just think this type of show is where Graham excels.

Graham Norton seems the best suited to me, he has the right combination of irreverence, enthusiasm and campness.

Vernon Kay - please God no, neverever. I'm not sure I could watch it with him as host , poor old Brucie is bad enough.

Hamster - please God no...yadda yadda yadda

Michael Ball and John Barrowman would never shut up. I like them both but they're not backward in coming forward, the poor celebs would never get a word in.

It's got to be Anton du Beke and also Claudia instead of Tess. Much better combo than at the mo

Tom Bergeron (I'm sure the British public would find him very funny)
Graham Norton
Paul O'Grady

For me, the best five possibilities would be:

Gethin Jones
Paul O'Grady
Graham Norton
Chris Hollins
Claudia Winkleman (Tess and Claudia were fine together when she covered for Bruce in 2009)

He would be terrible! I would sooner keep Bruce and that's really saying something about how I feel about Steve Jones.

Now Gethin Jones - he has the credentials. I notice a lot of people have nominated him!

I don't think Matt Baker should do it - he already does Countryfile and is supposedly doing The One Show. That would be way too much.

Graham Norton/Paul O'Grady - can't decide

Bruce's opener is "And now let's meet the stars of our show". So whoever it is should not be someone too up front. Should also be someone who actually knows how to present (some of those they have on the lottery are dire). For me this leaves: -

Anton DuBeke
Gethin Jones
Paul O'Grady
Chris Hollins

Can't think of a fifth.

Can we have a poll, please?

Read my original post. We will have a vote based on the 15-20 or so people with the most nominations.

I don't see the need for it to be someone with a singing and dancing background- I'd rather it be someone who is just very good at presenting. As it happens Aled does have both- although not quite in the way you mean. He's obviously a singer- I don't know if you're aware he's had a successful career as an adult, as well as a choir boy- and he's also done Strictly in series two and did very well.

But what means more to me is I think he has the right temperament and presenting style. I'd hate to see it go to someone like Anton or Vernon, who I think are too self-centred as presenters. I'd like it to be someone who makes it about the show, not about themselves.

I never knew Aled Jones had been on the show himself, which is why I asked the question, as I realise now why people have nominated him. The choirboy remark was tongue in cheek, as I do realise he has had a very successful career.

I like him as a presenter, but did not realise he had been a contestant on the show himself, which is why I thought he was a strange choice, but after reading this it is not so strange now, as I thought there had to be a reason that linked him with the show.

I think Graham Norton or Brian Conley would be good, as they are both good presenters and would still keep the humour there as well, as Graham is really good in the ALW shows he has done.

Michael Ball - love him! Very professional, relates well to people and when it's not "about him", doesn't do a me, me, me. However, he has a very busy musical career.

Graham Norton - would be an excellent choice (if a little risqué).

Terry Wogan - brilliant in his time but these days is a little hesitant (but not yet doddery!)

Aled Jones - like him and I think it would work.

Paul O'Grady - please NO! It would be all about him.

John Barrowman - see Paul O'Grady. (Though I do like Barrowman, but not for this.)

Vernon Kay - I quite like him but I don't want the Vernon and Tess show under any circumstances.

My vote would be either Michael Ball, Graham Norton or Aled Jones.

Forgot Matt Baker - I like him very much and think he would do a good job. So Matt Baker is added to the list for me!

Gethin Jones - good presenter and has competed on Strictly

Aled Jones - ditto Gethin

Graham Norton - too much for me

Vernon Kay - no - smacks of nepotism

Michael Ball - good but too busy

Paul O'Grady - no, too in your face

Brian Conley - could be good

Matt Baker - too busy

Steve Jones - No, no a thousand times NO!

So my choice would be Gethin Jones, second Aled Jones.

Claudia Winklemam (I don't see why it absolutely has to be a male/female combo)
Aled Jones
Gethin Jones

^^^ They would be my top choices but I'd also have no problem with:

Bill Turnbull
Michael Ball
Kmc1978
28-12-2010
Graham Norton
Steve Jones
Paul O'Grady
Claudia, either as main host or taking over from Tess.

Could probably live with Anton doing it if we got Erin to replace Tess.

My twopence worth --

Gary Wilmot - Actor/Musical Theatre
Brian Conley - Comic etc
Jason Donavan -

I'll go for Julian Clary & Fern Britton.
