Unplugging receiver

Several people I know have to unplug their set top boxes for a few minuites every so often, after which they work ok again.
Why is this?

Badly written firmware leading to leakage / corruption of volatile memory.

It can also result from power drops and spikes.

So you don't think a slightly larger dish would be any benefitt, because one neighbour's dish is in a poor site.
And another neighbour then may require a software update to their box?

No, it's either software problems, or interference crashing the box.
