Orange San Fransisco screen?

I have been thinking about getting this phone as my first smartphone. I was aware that one of the bet features of the phone, and something that put it above some of the orthers in the price range, was the quality of the screen. However i have been made aware it's changed to a TFT screen now?

Is the screen quality still good despite the change?

this thread may shed some light!

It's one of those changes that sound major, but in reality there's very little difference to the user. TFT won't look as nice when viewed from extreme angles, but you'll rarely do that.

The most significant aspect when comparing screens at this price range is the resolution, rather than the screen technology.

And it´s still a bloody good phone for the price!

Its an interesting one with AMOLED being both more vibrant but also more hype.

Some argue that the LCD is in effect higher definition with AMOLED using picture enhancement to achieve the same.

yes, apparently LCD screens are more sensitive touch wise, although i can only take what i read in forums.

I went up from resistive screen to capacitive screen.
I certainly do notice the difference but it is far from being major.

Not quite the same, both versions of the San Fran screen are capacitive. It's a bit of a storm in a tea cup, this is not the first phone that changed screen in it's product cycle, as I recall this happened with the HTC Desire as well.

I really wouldn't worry about it if I were you. All this talk about brightness levels, contrast ratios and viewing angles is 99% about marketing people having something to shout about - I mean, who actually looks at their phone from anything but straight on?

Brightness levels and contrast ratios can make a difference, but unless you plan on using your phone as a replacement for your TV (something I wouldn't advise!) then blacks being 5 shades blacker or whites that blind you when you turn the screen on aren't really that important. As long as you can read the screen in reasonable lighting conditions, that's all that really matters with a handheld device.

Resistive to capacitive was not a good comparison but I shocked at what little difference I got.
On my resistive GT540 I would use the button rather than use my fat fingers to try to pull down the small notification bar at the top.

But I;d be hard pushed to spend even an extra £20 for capacitive on a budget phone.
I'm certainly swayed by screen resolution more.

Most of the major Android websites are in agreement that the Orange San Francisco is the best PAYG Android phone you can get in that price range. I've seen some say they'd happily pay more for it.

ive got both screens a lcd and a amoled and tbh i wouldn't care which one i had, i was expecting there to be a big difference but there isn't
you should be more worried about battery life tbh as its appalling, and ive tried all the froyo and 2.1 roms they all seem about the same on the battery

the lcd is still a great screen don't let that put you of purchasing one

Which Samsung? The SF is the best phone under £200 imo and it costs less the £100, Bloody amazing.

Took my OLED SF into an Orange shop to compare screen and whilst the TFT may not be quite as good this is only noticale when you compare them. I bought a TFT SF for my OH. Both phones are unlocked, routed and running FroYo quite nicely and she loves her phone. Take the plunge!
