So much for Vernon Kay or John Barrowman!

It'll be nice to see you, Bruce!

Are they quite mad!!

What planet are they on??

People tune in to watch the show DESPITE him not because of him!!

He is absolutely terrible and should have the wit (or at least his agent should tell him!) to realise that he just can't do it any more. He has been past it since series 1 and this last series he was just plain dreadful!!!

Thank god for that!..... I would rather have Bruce than Vernon Kay!...... that is an unbearable thought!, i did see it myself in the paper that they wanted Vernon, but only if Bruce was happy to step down!,,,, you just don't know what to believe in the papers anymore!...

Please let him be gone - my fast forward button is dangerously over-worked during Strictly season to skip through his patter.

I'm hoping it's all part of an elaborate PR campaign to avoid accusations of ageism again. The Beeb would be hung, drawn and quartered by the Daily Heil if they 'sacked' Brucie, and I'm sure he would not go quietly if it was against his wishes. But putting out stories such as this will smooth the way to him making the decision himself and saving face.

Well Bruce is a hundred times better then that appalling Vernon.
At least Bruce has an interest in dance, Vernon is only interested in himself.

Well obviously it must be right if its in the Scottish Daily Record

The BBC WILL back him.....doesnt stop them hoping he decides to retire so they dont have to sack him eventually. The BBC know he is not responsible for the ratings jump.....he was at the helm during the slump too.

I smiled wryly at the comment "The 82-year-old continues to pull in huge audiences."

Does anyone really think that viewers watch Strictly only to see Brucie embarrass himself even further?

So long as he stops his non-funny jokes, his pathetic dancing and heaven forbid.........singing. He doesn't stumble over his lines, or go over time so that we don't get all 4 judges comments....................

Then I don't mind him staying.

I do hope though that, without wishing anything awful to happen...............he loses his voice or is under the weather mid next year and decides that it is too much for him to do it anymore.

The BBC won't sack Bruce, they got a lot of criticism when they dumped Arlene.
He'll eventually go when he's had enough.

He couldn't possibly meet those conditions - so bye bye Brucie.

Pity we who pay the piper (i.e. the licence) cannot call the tune and decide when enough is enough.

Great news, don't find him embarrassing at all. Infact I think this series was better for him than last years, very few mistakes from him and at least he can laugh at himself. A good traditional entertainer

I'd take Bruce over either of the two young pretenders (Barrowman and Kay) any day of the week. I don't mind him as much as most because I respect the fact that he's one of the people who helped make the show what it is today. I agree that he doesn't have many more series left in him, so I sincerely hope that after the farce with Arlene/Alisha they have learnt their lesson and will think VERY carefully when they have to replace one of established cornerstones of the show.

How do you propose doing that? The viewing figures are healthy so that would not suggest a change is needed.

If they replaced someone just because there were a few letters in the paper and places like here then every single person on the programme would be replaced - probably every week :=)

You're surely not suggesting that Bruce's tenure as presenter is responsible for healthy viewing figures this season. I would suggest that a number of viewers (me included) continue to watch despite Bruce not because of him. He can longer read the autocue with any accuracy, he fluffs his lines, and his increasingly embarrassing performances make many of us cringe.

I think you're in danger of resorting to hyperbole when you suggest my call for change could lead to a week by week cull of every single person on the programme. Exaggeration is never a wise move when trying to make a credible point.

lets get the show modern, but we will keep the 80 year old presenter....

He'll be 83 by the next series. But it's not his age, he was this dreadful 20 years ago.

Who actually watches the show because of Brucie? He makes me cringe as soon as he opens his mouth.

Say what you like about the other suggestions, there are some I like, some I don't but they are all capable, unlike Brucie.

I just suggested that viewing figures is the only real test though I presume that the BBC do their own additional research as they do for all programmes. If he was so unpopular then people would not watch, there are several programmes I turn off because I cannot stand people on them.

The people who do not like a person or programme tend to be the most vocal so cannot be relied on to indicate whether the person or programme is unpopular especially as they often tend to use the old Mary Whitehouse technique of claiming to speak for whole of the British people.

I believe this was deliberate, due to shortage of time occasionally only 3 judges get a chance to comment. True that if Brucie skipped one of his slow jokes then time would have been made available. In Brucie's defence he did tell a few good jokes:

Brucie (in a sympathetic voice): "Last week Penny had tears....I said to Penny I said, I'll get something to wipe away your tears."
Tess: "What did you get, what did you get?"
Brucie: "A step-ladder."

So why did you, Brucie, have to go and spoil it all?
"She was so tall you see," he explained his joke.

I loathe Brucie, and actually didn't watch Strictly when it started because of him. But I eventually tuned in because there was a celebrity I wanted to see (Peter Schmeichel) and stayed because the dancing took over. Now Brucie's just something I have to put up with to see the dancing.

Mind you that's true about Tess, Alesha, Craig and Bruno too.

I think he can't tell what's funny. The one you've quoted is a great joke. But I really lost all tolerance when he kept making jokes about Jo Wood losing a Rolling Stone.
