HTC Desire / Updates

Hi guys I need more advice.

I just updated to 2.29.405.5 on my Sim free Desire. Yet again despite checking and double checking that auto sync was unticked and making sure all the relevent tick boxes were unticked after updating somehow I've been forced to have all my Facebook contacts on my phone again, and this time I CANNOT get rid of them what so ever!

I've tried wiping all Facebook data for "Facebook" and "Facebook for HTC Sense" but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I've checked that the phone is only set to display "Phone" contacts and nothing else, basically the phone is setup the way I've been running it since day one but no amount of trying will make these Facebook contacts go away.

I really don't want to have to completely wipe the phone.

It's a real annoyance of this handset I've noticed since getting it that after EVERY single update it does this to my phone. I'm sick fed up with updates mucking about with the way I have my handset setup to run, why can't HTC ensure that whatever update is put out it doesn't start changing things on the handset!?

Anyway as for my problem I am in need of advice on how to get rid of the Facebook stuff. Thanks in advance

Delete your Facebook account from your phone, then re-add it. If you add a Facebook account during the initial setup it will merge your Facebook contacts in with your phone ones, but if you add the account manually it doesnt cause problems.

Hi Nasalhair. I've done just that countless times no with no effect. I've followed the same process as I have in the past and it usually worked but not this time,

I simply cannot get rid of the Facebook contacts!

just don't login to Facebook using the app, use a browser...

For me all I had to do is delete both accounts then use ONLY the standard Facebook account.

The HTC Sense one is the one that does the damage

I have a desire. I did not add the my details to the facebook app when I did the initial setup but did it in the app itself.

Only my contacts linked to my google account (not facebook or sim contacts) appear on my phone which is how I like my contacts.

You could try this:

1) Go to "Settings" on the phone
2) Go to "Accounts & sync"
3) Under "Manage accounts" delete any facebook accounts you see which will probably be either of these "Facebook" or "Facebook for HTC Sence"
4) Now delete all contacts from your phone and add them from your sim or google account again.
5) No Facebook contacts should be visible now.

Thanks for the advice all. I would avoid the app, but I actually WANT to use it, chat comes in handy when I'm away from the computer and I actually need to speak to someone and they are online.

I've never had any issue like this before, as I've said the first time this happened I simply followed what I'd read online, that is to delete your account however this time it's not having the correct effect, now it's doing nothing!

Even after deleting my Facebook details all the imported contacts are staying on the phone.

preetkk, that's something I'll eventually get round to doing. I really want to find out the root of this problem and the solution to it because for all I know whatever I do to correct it, the same thing may very well happen again in the not too distant future.

How very strange. Right after I posted my replyI delete my HTC Sense Facebook details and the problem went away as it should have!

However after giving it some thought I realised what I'd done differently. Instead of going to Manage Accounts then tapping Clear Data I simply deleted my account info.

I'll keep this in mind in case it should happen again.

If you just want the facebook app because of the function maybe you should try ebuddy instead?

I myself never used to like the facebook app that was on the android platform because m.facebook.com always seemed better. But now because it finally has the chat facility (which iphone had in their FB app along time ago) I use it
