Freeview HD or Freesat HD?
Does the panel have a recommendation as to whether a Freesat box (plugged in to my old Sky aerial), is better than a Freeview HD box?
I'm toying with the idea of getting a Sagemcom DSI86, and using its aux out to record onto my Panasonic HDD drive. |

Nothing really to choose between them, but you currently get more HD channels on Freeview than Freesat - although Freesat has much greater potential.
You will, of course, only be able to record in SD with anything other than an HD PVR. |

I think the thing that I'm most concerned about is finding myself with a redundant format. As far as you are aware, are both formats likely to continue or is one about to romp ahead? Quote:

I don't think there is much experience on this forum on the Sagemcom DSI86 [There may be more on the freesat forum] - for me the advantages of a PVR are very significant over anything you have to be tuned to.
I'm still trying to work of what the best gear is, for the best price. Not so bothered about recording in HD, as long as I can get a half decent SD picture for stuff I don't see live. But, a twin tuner option, and something that supports BBC iPlayer would be handy. Just found that the Sagem does not support I player. ![]() Edit. Oh-oh, looks like there has been an upgrade, and some Sagem boxes do offer iplayer, etc. Just found this model, which looks good. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...%3EFREESAT.htm |

Freesat has much better promise down the line for both quality of broadcast and quantity of HD due to a lack of bandwdith on Freeview. However, at the moment you lose Dave, Fiver, Five US to Freeview. If you can live without those then Freesat is definately my choice (I chose it) because of it potential. |

That sums it up in a nutshell.
