I think if I were Leanne I would want to pretend the drug history had never happened, but that's just how I would be. But in soapland she should be involved in the storyline now, I think. Jez was SO scary!!!

I do think it is possible that she just doesn't want to talk about it and its buried in her past. I suppose it's not likely that anyone would bring it up, although, as we've said, it could in upcoming story lines. In contrast, though, Leanne did talk about her past with regard to prostitution when Natasha brought it up back in 2010, so she has been willing to discuss some of the bad parts of her past.

I do hope Stella finds out about some of Leanne's past, that would be very interesting.

It seems odd to me that I can't ever recall Leanne and Chesney even talking to each other. You'd think they would acknowledge the 'family ties', even though they aren't blood links. Then again, as I said earlier, this probably isn't seen as important in the grand scheme of things against the big story lines they've been involved in.

I'm inclined to agree. I know I never want to refer to/recount the bad periods of my life so far, so I get why Leanne never mentions it. That being said, sometimes these bad periods are brought up anyway, regardless of how hard you try to pretend they didn't happen. But if Steve is going to be involved in the SL then he'll have to mention Jez, so if Jez is brought up then Leanne will have to be mentioned because it was her who had the habit. They could go another way though and just have Steve giving a brief account of Leanne's coke problem - but 'd be annoyed if that was the case.

The escort business has been referred to several times, you're right. Plus, remember when Peter was threatening to start digging up Leanne's past during the custody battle?
I'm wondering whether the escorting is held against her more because she was old enough to know what she was doing then. When she had her coke habit she was a young,naive girl who fell in with the wrong crowd. Falling in with the wrong crowd is typical of many teens so it can be more easily understood/forgiven.


What I've found recently is that the family units tend to keep to themselves and don't really mix. Leanne stays involved with the Barlows, Prices and (now) Platts. She doesn't really socialise with anyone outside of those families. Likewise with Chesney; he stays with the Windass/Armstrongs and that's it.


It was sad Although I think that the frequency of miscarriages on the street comes from the fact that the writers make too many characters pregnant. Before this pregnancy SL, Gary and Izzy's last big SL was his breakdown. It seems to be that when the writers don't know what to do for a couple, then they give them a pregnancy. Pregnancy SLs can only go two ways - healthy pregnancy (boring) or losing it What annoys me too is that the people who want babies never seem to get them eg. Karen, Becky, Leanne, Izzy

I suppose it is only human to bury away those experiences from the past that we'd rather forget. As you say, though, if Steve's to be involved, then Leanne could be too, as they were both involved in her addiction story line in the past. I don't know if it will feature, but it would be something interesting for the character, certainly. I'm not really sure what Leanne will be up to now that the Karl/Sunita reveal is pretty much over. I suppose she'll be involved when Gloria arrives, which should be fairly soon now?

I really, really want to watch that clip, but my lunch break probably isn't the best time to do it!


I never really understood why Peter didn't want to fight dirty from the beginning re: Leanne's past? Yeah, she certainly was an adult at the time of her escort days and aware of the consequences. She did express regret and a fear that should would never escape her past with respect to her escorting.


It's such a shame, because there are so many more things they could do with pregnancy story lines.

What's next for Leanne, then? Funny that Nick [and Simon to some extent] have disappeared now, isn't it?

Well, I think there's more Sunita/Karl tension coming up. Spoilers suggest that there's going to be a ding-dong at Stella's birthday with Sunita and Leanne I'm hoping Leanne destroys Sunita. Leanne's been a mouthy piece a heck of a lot longer than Sunita has!

I'm stumped as to when Gloria's arriving. I know Sue Johnston was ill, but I heard she's filming again (but don't quote me on that!).

I think Peter assumed that parroting the "but I'm his ACTUAL dad" line would be enough to win him the case. Just like a lot of people on the main forum, Peter assumed that blood conquered all and that Leanne had no chance. When it became clear that biology wasn't enough, then it dawned on Peter to think about fighting dirty.

I don't think that would've worked either, personally. It would've tainted Leanne's image, but the fact that the coke and the escorting was far in the past would've counted for something. When's the last time Leanne took drugs/had a client? Now when was the last time Peter had a drink?


I reckon family wars with Sunitart!! Well, I'm hoping so I'm not too bothered about Nick/Simon She needs to get away from that one SL.

Yes, I saw that in the spoilers last night. All I could think at first was, "Why the hell is Sunita even THERE?" Why would she even be invited? And why the hell is Karl, there, too? Please don't say Stella has forgiven him already. God, the writers are liking a punch-up at a party at the moment. Dunk her in the fruit punch, Leanne! Part of me does like that she seems to have some feistiness back, although let's hope it doesn't ruin the festivities as much as Peter whacking Nick at Simon's party. Speaking of which, seeing as she was so excited by them at that event, let's hope Stella gets some balloon animals for her birthday!

If it had been brought up, I would have had the lawyer ask him: "And you knew this when you married her?" Wasn't a problem then, although, in a similar vein, Leanne has always known about Peter's issues with alcoholism. As you say, though, neither things are a current issue that affect her life or her care of Simon at the present moment.

BIB - That's what I initially thought too!! I assumed that there's a party and that K&S had been invited for some bizarre reason. But, reading it again, it says Leanne and Sunita come to blows on Stella's birthday so now I'm thinking that Stella//Eva/Leanne are out at the Bistro and Karl and Sunita are there too and that's where it kicks off.

As an aside, out of all the women for Leanne to be having a bitch fight with, Sunita seems too inadequate. It's almost an insult to have Leanne facing off against her. Leanne vs Carla was always good to watch because they both could give as good as they got, but Sunita? Meh :yawn: Her overnight transformation into a bitch is A) Too fast and B) Not convincing. Dare I say it, even Tracy would be a better match for Leanne!


The fact was that Leanne's past had nothing to do with Peter or Simon! Since getting with Peter, she pretty much stayed on the straight and narrow (Nick affair aside). Peter had no case! He'd had run-ins with the law after decking Frank and also falsely confessing to murder in order to get Carla off the hook! He was willing to go inside for a long, long time - where was any thought to Simon then?
Of course Peter's huge recent mistakes are routinely overlooked when the "druggie/hooker/arsonist" brigade are out in full force

I agree. Leanne slapping Carla at the hospital was just legendary for me. It's the way she turns away at first and then – BAM! As I said before, I also love the banter between Tracy and Leanne. I don't know why, I just think they've had some good one-liners.

Thinking about Gloria's arrival, I've been wondering. I got the feeling from the reveal at Leanne's birthday that it wasn't a secret that Stella had her, just that Les and his mother 'took over', which led to their estrangement. It'll therefore be interesting to see what sort of relationship that Leanne has with Gloria and the relationship between Stella and Gloria.

I loathe Tracy! In real life, anyone like her would've been shunned by the entire street. She murdered Charlie (who I loved ) yet swans around verbally abusing anyone and everyone - and they let her!! She uses her child as a weapon when the chips are down, and as for Steve....she's just argh!!! What makes it worse is that Kate Ford can only act the one way - bitchy. Anything else and she's just cringworthy to watch, particularly when she tried to do upset :sleep:

I can't recall Gloria being referred to at all tbh so I'll take your word for it Gunner! But I'll be interested in the dynamic between Leanne/Gloria. Hope it's a better written relationship than Eva/Leanne.

Trying to think of any good things about Tracey the cold-blooded murderer, I really can't I think of Charlie, who Tracey told both Dreary and her solicitor that she had murdered. Then I think of Roy and Hayley - she sold her baby to them after convincing Roy that he was the father of her baby - they called the baby Patience - later she said Roy wasn't the father and had the baby back (now known to us as Amy). Then there was Dreary's husband Samir who offered to donate a kidney to Tracey, as he was a match for her, when she needed one after having taken Ecstasy. She pretended to Steve and everyone else that Becky had pushed her down the stairs making her miscarry her twins.

I've mentioned this a couple of times on the main forum, but apart from killing Charlie () there are two particular instances that stuck in my mind - both happened when she'd made her Christmas comeback. One was when she deliberately threw a drink over Amy just to make her change out of the clothes Becky had dressed her in, the other was when she was casually talking to Claire about Ashley dying. She was dancing about and deliberately "forgetting" Ashley's name. I really wish Claire would've finished the job properly and caved her head in after she pushed her.

Your analysis of Tracy clearly proves that I'm far too much of a sucker for a good one-liner! She has behaved terribly for most of her time on the show, no doubt about it.

OK, I have a day off tomorrow so I think I will definitely fit in the Jez Quigley clip. Feel free to recommend me anything else Leanne-wise that's good on YouTube. I'm feeling in the mood for some classic clips, if I can tear myself away from the sport!

No doubt she does superbitch well, but after that there's not much else to work with. I think I'd be less inclined to loathe her as much as I do if she's actually shown some remorse over killing Charlie (because it was a stupid motive anyway) and/or actually shown some feeling to people after the tram crash. Instead she's come back worse than when she left! Death is something never to take lightly/casually but for Tracy is just seems like another thing to use as an attack on someone

Is it just me, or does 1997 seem like another world in that clip? I mean, I know it is 15 years ago, but still. Everything seems so different. Anyway, I love it: the mad hair, the carrying around the ghetto blaster, generally being a pain. The way Leanne and Toyah were talking to Ken amused me greatly. Was he actually their teacher or were they just calling him "Sir" because he was one of the teachers at their school?

I think I said this recently, but I think that Ken's good relationship with Leanne now could stem from the fact that he knows how she was there and how she is now and the growth that it took her to get there?

On to Jez...isn't he awful? Oddly, in looks, he reminds me of a young John Thomson of Cold Feet and Corrie fame!
Great acting from Jane (as ever), as Leanne's fear is utterly palpable in that clip.

I find watching those ye olde clips so surreal! It's not really changed dramatically, but it's still a nostalgia trip looking back. I just find it funny to see Leanne and Toyah being the stereotypical teens from hell That teen Battersby is still there in Leanne, but she doesn't come out much as she should I agree with your point about Ken. He's literally witnessed Leanne go from dodgy, rebellious, tearaway teen to hard-working, independent, capable mother material.

I think Leanne's character development has been done really well. I know that it seems like she's lost her edge since becoming maternal but, like it or not, it's called growing up. I wouldn't like it if she was still scheming away and deliberately hurting people for the sake of it (ala Tracy). She's still got an edge when she needs it though eg. custody battle/sticking up for Stella, so her fire hasn't gone out completely.

I know that she got a lot of stick during the Simon saga (motivated by revenge/bitterness/jealousy etc not love) but I don't see why she had to feel guilty for not wanting Peter to have an easy life! Leanne invested in that Barlow family unit; she became a mother to Simon, helped run the bookies and also tried to combat Peter's alcoholism. She did a hell of a lot for Peter and Simon, yet was expected to just walk away from it all when Peter decided Carla was the one Leanne was fully entitled to maintain the mother position in Simon's life, yet Peter was adamant to remove her from it. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd be peed off at getting the push from the family unit I'd help cement! Leanne's bitter? Yes, probably. Jealous? Certainly! She's only human! How was she meant to feel? Peter wanted her as Simon's mum and she more than filled that position, so why suddenly give it all up on Peter's say so? She deserves to be part of Simon's life as much as Peter, blood related or not.

What I love about that clip is that you get both sides of Leanne. The mouthy side (when she's telling him that she's not going through with the raid on the Rovers) but also the vulnerable side (when she's begging him not to hurt her family/tries to avoid having to sleep with him). She does an excellent job of portraying a young girl who's got in too deep with a very bad crowd.
