I know it's not really a 'soap' as such but it seems to get more recognisition in the soap forum.

I have rescently started getting 'back in' to casualty after a year of not watching it but always did like Ruth-but still do.

What episodes since her start in the show would you say are her key episodes? There was one where she tried to commit suicide I believe but i'm practically new to casualty again now so i'm sure some Ruth fans could help? Thanks <3

OMG Ruths been around for ages!

She used to fancy the guy who started the same day as her and then she went to his house to try and pull and he was in bed with another guy.

She tried to kill herself.

She doubted her medical abilities.

Haven't watched it in a while sorry.

Yeah, I think her main eps is the one where she tried to commit suicide and the one shortly after where Harry Harper read through her diary and we saw the flashbacks. Those are really the only major Ruth episodes that I can remember.

There was an episode where her father came to visit her at the hospital (or was even a patient I think).Turns out he was an alcoholic and a useless layabout and a user who was never there for her when she was growing up.There was a strong hint that all of her problems now were caused by her unhappy childhood and her terrible relationship with him.

Didn't her brother show up last year too? He too seemed to have a load of problems....either in trouble with the law or a drug addict or something.

Ruth entered into a relationship with Jay and even moved in with him,but she started acting all weird with him soon afterwards and sabotaged the relationship.Apparently she couldn't handle emotional intimacy or being in a commited relationship.

As mentioned, the episode after her suicide attempt is the really key one (series 22 episode 25).

I'd also recommend watching all the Ruth and Jay clips on this channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/danceeatsleepdance#p/p

It might take a while to look through them all, but it covers all of Ruth's storylines from Jay onwards: her abortion, marriage, her attempts to be a surgeon, the storyline with her brother, and obviously all the relationship stuff with Jay.

Then you're only really missing out on her very early storylines, most of which are summarised in the episode following her suicide attempt. But if want to seek them out individually, then there's several episodes where she misdiagnoses patients and they end up dead/paralysed. Her crush and one night stand with Nick Jordan. Her scenes with Toby, which are all good viewing. And the episode with her alcoholic father.

I think the relationship with her father is the key one : it left her completely screwed up.The ruthless ambition and desire to be successful clearly comes from trying to put her childhood and relationship with her father right.

There was also the ep when she slept with Jordan and then the next ep where he rejected her.

I am so intrigued into seeing some past episodes RE Ruth...I can only really watch them on DVD as my PC takes ages to buffer clips! But anyway, I am going to try and find some of the best episodes by date and name and go on an investigation.

I loved tonight's episode and missed the previous one so was a bit confused, but caught up.

when she got married last year and jay tried to stop her (although it was more centered around Jay but it was still a good ep)
