FOXSAT HDR - No Signal
Nice new Xmas pressy (to ourselves) – Humax Foxsat(Freesat)+ HDR 320GB. Followed instructions & wizard kicked in. User settings came, accepted & clicked ‘next’. ‘Freesat detection’ window came up and clicked ‘detection’. Well what seemed liked hours eventually said ‘cannot detect satellite signal’ (or words to that effect – ugh! Went to next window and entered postcode and it stated ‘postcode not found’- bigger ugh! Years ago I paid for sky packages but recently stopped as too expensive (now retired). For last 10 years using my old Panasonic digibox and sky minidish and could watch virtually all the free channels now. Using old CRT TV with scart connection. Thought it was a simple case of plugging existing LNB cable into Foxsat receiver and away you go. Yes the HD TV will come later. But why no signal – have gone back to Digibox and can still pick up those sky channels – BUT I want to record - HELP. Appreciate that single LNB will have to be changed to gain full potential of Freesat+ (will do later)

There are two LNB inputs. You need to connect to the first one with a single-feed set up.

Maybe your box has been mis-wired inside. You could try the other input I suppose.

The OP needs a short piece of coax from lnb1 out to lnb2 in.
Check the connection to lnb1 has the centre core going down the hole and is not bent. Go to Menu/system/diagnostics and check the signal strength/quality |

Thanks for that GT. I made up the loop and thought before I connect it I will give it a go with just the 1 LNB IN as yesterday. So disconnected from digibox and connected to Humax. Lo & behold it 'found signal', 'detected antenna cable' and accepted 'Postcode'. Couldn't beleive it! During the set upwizard it stated that 'New software could not be found' - is that a problem please?. On my old digibox I was getting Signal about 60% and Quality 60% - can this be improved - live in NE England. Humax picked up 128TV & 38Radio channels. I have come across a thread from you in Oct 08 re single LNB and loop with list of channels that can be recorded/watched. Would like that spreadsheet please and will follow yr instructions. One more Q please, if we power off everything at night will saved programs be retained on the hard drive (I assume they will)? Regards.

There is no new software at the moment although an upgrade to 1.00.14 is expected shortly
Don't turn off the power completely overnight as the box needs to wake up in the early hours to do various jobs including the auto check for new firmware. It uses less than 1 watt in low power sby so the power consumption is very very small. In any case until the firmware is released turning off the power will stop recording until you manually boot the box. Both the recording schedule and the actual recordings are on the hdd so powering off won't affect these at all. Excel app http://www.4shared.com/document/OXJh...dCheck011.html Don't worry too much about signal strength quality, the figure vary greatly across different boxes. If however you experience picture dropout in adverse weather eg (heavy rain) this will normally indicate the dish alignment is a tad out ot the dish is undersized for your location. |
