My cat and static

This is quite weird, but here goes lol

I'm getting electric shocks from my cat (albeit small ones) everytime I stroke him

I've owned several cats before now and never experienced it before.

Before I read the post, I wondered if it was a male cat. I get them from my male cat too sometimes. Males (not just cats) tend to have more electricity whizzing about them (especially in adolescence). Not much you can do about it really. It's just not nice for them when they get a shock on the nose.

Very interesting! And it would make sense, as my cat is only about 10 months old.

Depends, I get this from my cat (9 year old female) if she is on the bed (water bed) and I'm wearing my trainers, I think it must be because we are both well isolated from the ground and stroking builds up static (like rubbing a balloon on your hair) until you get a shock (usually if my hand goes near the tips of her ears), if I have my slippers on or bare feet then there's no static shocks.

Lol yeah, there's one young male cat in particular that I get electric shocks from. He never seems to flinch tho - just me

I gave my female cat a static shock on her nose this morning. I am guessing it is a combination of central heating and me (or perhaps her too) being slightly dehydrated. Thankfully it seemed fine after I have had my morning cuppa and she has had a drink of water. My carpets are mixed fibres, but if you also have a synthetic carpet, it may add to the problem.

Usually only get it when the air is very dry, during the last cold snap for instance. Best to keep your hand away from the ears and nose when stroking to avoid sudden bloodshed.
