New to HDTV
I bought an HDTV [40"], and as a regular TV, all seems well.
I will not get Sky HDTV, but it does have built-in Freeview. I may be wrong, but I was of the understanding that it has HDTV Freeview. Is the HDTV Freeview available in all area's? Also, my Son has an HDTV, [19"] and he has a PS3, yet the the games just look as they do on a regular TV. Am I missing something? |

If it was sold with Freeview HD as opposed to being a HD telly with Freeview than yes you should get the Freeview HD channels if they are broadcast in your area with a suitable aerial, the manual should confirm this either way. As for reception then region by region is undergoing DSO so go to the Freeview HD site and pop in your postcode.
Smaller screen sizes are only going to show the benefit of a HD sources when viewed at from much shorter distances, think of them like a computer monitor, viewed from a distance you are not going to see the detail not matter how good the video is or even the graphics card creating the desktop. A small flat panel viewed from a distance even with good eyesight will simply not provide the viewer with the detail a large panel with a HD source would from the same distance. So in this case the benefits in picture quality is not that great between a small flat panel and similar sized CRT, there are benefits in overall size, weight and of course price and choice are definitely in the flat panel market these days. Hook up the PS3 to the 40" with HDMI and 1080p output, play a modern game and watch a good Blu-ray then you'll see why HD has the edge over SD or even HD on a small panel or CRT

19" is tiny. There is little that is going to make 19" look good or better, it is just too small. Furthermore if he has it hooked up with the wrong cables, it won't even be really hd.
