Iplayer on Sony Bravia = Slow
pete taylor

When I view programmes on the Bravia, using either 'Demand 5" or the BBC Iplayer, I seem to encounter the most problems downloading with the Iplayer?

No program on Demand 5 has stopped yet, but viewing the Iplayer seems to very 'Hit & Miss' with programmes stopping.

I know it's all to do with internet connection speeds, but why does Demand 5 work better than the Beeb's offering?

I wish you could store the program locally to build up a good buffer!

depends on your internet speed as the rate iPlayer programmes are streamed in Kbps are slightly higher than Demand Five. Are you using normal or high quality?

Normal

I find the higher quality iPlayer streams are actually less prone to stuttering on Bravia TV.

How do you enable the higher quality iPlayer streams on Bravia?

I have the Bravia EX503. iPlayer shows as Beta and very poor quality picture. (HD channel is not available).

I also have a Sony S570 blu-ray. iPlayer on this is excellent and even the HD channel streams with no interruption over my 10Mb (max) wireless.

Select the programme you want to watch, then in the left hand menu, the 2nd option should be "Higher quality".

The option appears on all programmes.

Sadly, you have to do this everytime you watch a new show, there is no way to set preferences as of yet.

you should also check the amount or rather the 'weight' of bandwidth allocated to your TV in your router settings - this can cause bandwidth throttling problems within your own home

it's not enormously common as routers get smarter, but it's worth checking your manual and doing some further research

I have been getting a lot of iPlayer pausing for buffering lately on my BDP-S370 blu-ray!

I'm on o2 LLU and was tempted to blame the broadband connection... but does anyone have a suspicion that issue with not enough data getting shoved down the wire might be at the BBC end of things?

We had BT come out and change the master socket. Slight improvement.

Like I said previously, I wish they could allow you to buffer more of the programme before playback.

It would be great if they could let you select the buffer time, depending on your connection speed, so you get a better user experience.

it seems iPlayer buffering on S370 blu-ray players is a widely reported problem:

users now saying that the experienced issue is no more! no official word in the thread linked above about what was changed / fixed, but at the moment all seems to be back to normal...

I see on the Bravia platform that the BETA status has now been removed!

Roll on 4OD and ITV Player!

Is there any plans for 4od or ITV Player on Sony Bravia? Would be good if there is.

I heard months back when they launched them on the PS3 that they would be launching on Bravia around about now, but all has went quiet in that department.

I can't remember where I read it!
