I've had a couple of requests for floor plans of the Coronation Street houses. Below are plans and information about houses 1 - 13 and the corner shop from 1960 - 2011.

These plans are very rough - they are by no means detailed.

They do not intend to answer any of the many anomalies with the Coronation Street set.

They hopefully cover most major structural changes, with some smaller alterations included because I'm a geek.

I've not done a plan of the Rovers. Floor plans are available online. Pre-1986 here, and post-1986 here. Sorry to sound really old and miserable, but I can't be bothered to get into the debate about the toilets in the Barlow's front room and the Rovers living room extending out into the middle of Rosamund Street. It's been discussed to death.

Coronation Street - 1960

Plan here

All of the houses are structurally the same, apart from No.9. When the first sets were being designed in 1960, it was thought that all of the house interiors would look too similar. The set for No.9. was given a glazed lean-to kitchen extending the width of the house.

The corner shop door was originally on the bevelled corner of the building.

Until Alf modernised the shop in 1985 (see below), the shop had a large living area at the back. The stairs ran horizontally through the building. Some of the shop owners lived only in the back room and rented out the upstairs space to lodgers - the first being Sheila Birtles and Doreen Lostock in 1961.

The corner shop had many refits and alterations during the 1960s. If anyone's desperate to know, I'm happy to do some separate plans.

Coronation Street - c.1985

Plan here

By the mid-80s, some big changes had happened on Coronation Street.

The first one that's included in this plan actually happened in 1969. Can anyone guess what it is?

No.1.

Ken and Deirdre bought No.1 from Albert Tatlock in late 1983, just a number of months before he died in May 1984. They modernised the house by building the first kitchen extension on the Street.

No.5.
When Minnie Caldwell left Coronation Street in 1976, Mike Baldwin bought the house and modernised it. He knocked the three downstairs 'rooms' (the hallway, front parlour and back room) into one open-plan space which has remained almost unchanged.

No.7.
The original house collapsed in 1965 and wasn't rebuilt until 1982 (this was in conjunction with the move to the 'new' exterior set). Len Fairclough built the house, helped by Sharon Gaskill, and the new house was essentially open-plan but had glass double doors separating the hall/front parlour from the back room.

No.13
Hilda had a serving hatch installed in 1971.

Corner Shop
Alf modernised the old corner shop almost beyond recognition, reopening it as a self-service mini-market. Alf extended the shop floor and got rid of the downstairs living space, using the back of the shop for a small office and stock room.

The staircase to the flat was moved completely, with access to the upstairs using the existing side door on Viaduct Street.

Coronation Street - 2011
Plan here

No.7.
The double doors disappeared completely during the time that Danny Baldwin & Co lived in the house, making it completely open plan.

No.9.
Jack & Vera had a kitchen extension built in 2000. The first structure didn't have planning permission and had to be taken down, but a new, bigger one was built.

No.13.
The Peacocks followed the Barlow and Duckworth trend and had a kitchen extension built.

The corner shop is not included in this plan as it was destroyed by the tram crash in 2010, and No.13 suffered (we assume) considerable damage .

Could you do a plan of the terrace as it looked in 2010 before the tram crash.

Also would you do the separate plans of the corner shop, I'd love to see the layout changes that were made.

And once we know what's going where the corner shop is and know the layout of No.13 will you draw an updated floor plan.

Thanks.
