Orange/T-mobile merger question.

I'm sorry If this has been posted elsewhere, I'm not a frequent user of DS forums!

It is my understanding that with the Orange/ T-mobile merger, if the signal for one disappears completely, (If you've got one bar on Orange where you might get three bars of signal strength on T-mobile, it doesn't matter), it is only under this circumstance the mobile device seeks connection to the other network.

I was just wondering whether it would be viable (and allowed) to go into the network settings of the mobile and manually set the network to that with the best signal strength?

Many thanks and apologies for the lengthly query.

Yep you can go into the network settings and manually choose it if you wish.

But by doing this, at the moment you will get no 3G signal if you force it onto the other network, can only get 3G on your home network still.

Marvellous!
I was just enquiring as I did this earlier to my Grandmother's phone, it's ok, she doesn't use or need 3G services.

My Nokia is set to "automatic" for network selection, i've not witnessed it change by itself yet, which is a shame as i'd rather like to see my operator name switch to T-Mobile, just for the novelty!

Oh well thats handy then

Haha my Orange iPhone used to switch to it in 2/3 places, and it said "Orange T-Mobile" at the signal bar.

My new T-Mobile iPhone is yet to switch over at all anywhere so i havent been able to see it yet

Ahhh. Obvisouly the T-Mobile signal is stronger than the Orange signal in your location! :P (Don't know why I decided to state the obvious there)

I was previously using Three The speed was great and the coverage excellent. They didn't have a great choice of handsets though!
