So far they've announced four of the top five...

1. (Revealed tomorrow)
2. James Blake
3. The Vaccines
4. Jamie Woon
5. Clare Maguire

Who do you think will be #1?

Anna Calvi, Daley, Esben & the Witch, Jessie J, Mona, The Naked & Famous, Nero, Jai Paul, Warpaint, Wretch 32 and Yuk are the remaining nominees.

Personally, I think it'll be Jessie J, though it should be The Naked & Famous (in my opinion)

Jessie J without a doubt. She has been talked about a lot and was AMAZING on Jools Holland a couple of months back and she is writing for Britney amongst others.

I've always thought this list was a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy. I think 'Sound Of 2011' is probably a correct term as it's in the fickle nature of these lists to hype artists to death one year and then abandon them the next.

Wouldn't like to see Jessie J get it. Nero are more deserving.

I kinda agree, I'd like to see Nero, Warpaint or preferably The Naked & Famous get it - just for Young Blood alone.

Jessie J then.

Not exactly unexpected. I hope she comes up with something better than the first single, it sounds like it could have been released by just about any female pop type from Britney Spears to a girls aloud solo project.

More the sound of 2005 than 2011 so far, hopefully just a dodgy single than a sign of whats to come.

Jessie J confirmed as the winner:

So happy. She deserves all the success that is heading her way.

Do It Like A Dude was really designed just to get her name out there. I think they knew it would be polarising and get people talking but that's what they wanted. I do like it but her other songs are far superior.

My problem with it is that it does the exact opposite of that. Its uttery generic r'nb influenced pop.

It has all the swagger of someone that has just released a game changing pop masterpiece but it does nothing that Christina Aguilera hasn't allready done almost ten years ago.

She'll need to come up with something more interesting than that to live up to the hype.

I find her a bit dull and annoying but she wrote the modern classic Party In The USA and therefore deserves success or something.

If Jessie J is the "Sound of 2011", then I might spend the year deaf for my own safety.

More meaningless, overhyped, rubbish R & B drivel.

Just awful.

I absolutely despise do it like a dude and think it is an awful song but then again every number 1 this year has so it must be the trend xD... Congratulations to her... I think the naked and the famous were robbed though.

Hmmm, slightly disappointed that James Blake or Jamie Woon didn't get it to be honest.

So Jessie J is the victor. Congrats.

Unfortunately it means absolutely nothing.

Well, certainly is "do it like a dude" is an indication of what we can expect from young Jessica Cornish then yes, spot on.

Her much discussed Jools Holland performance suggested that she has a little bit more about her though so fingers crossed she'll pull a decent song out of the bag.

I have to say, Do it like a dude combined with the fact that she wrote Party in the USA is starting to turn my optimism into fear over the crap she might end up putting out.

(Its rarely the winner of "sound of ...." that does anything of note anyway.

In 2004 Keane were number one ahead of Franz Ferdinand and the scissor sisters. In 2008 little boots won ahead of Florence and so on.....)

Don't think she's got a bad voice, really.Just checked her out on you tube - don't like it when she forces her voice & the gimmicky little r&b type cliché type singing she does which verges on being commical at times. Also the melisma she puts into some of her songs does not sound natural at all. That is when she gets annoying. When she just sings straight she sounds so much better - suppose she is being urged stand out from the crowd by her record label .
Do It Like A Dude is just obbismal autotuned crap, but even in that you can hear there is a good voice behind it all.Perhaps the youngsters prefer to listen to this type of over effected, attention grabing, annoying, clichéd, over the top, self indulgent, semi-commical rubbish.

Apparently.

She claimed from the start it wasn't meant to be taken seriously. If you watch her when she performs it and all the faces she pulls, she knows full well it's a joke. She actually says in her Sound of 2011 interview that she loves that a lot of people didn't get it and a lot of people did.

Apart from the extra exposure it gives her - don't think this award should be about that though - that is, promoting Major label artists who are already being heavily promoted by their PR.This award kind of gives the impression that the BBC is 'discovering' new, undiscovered artists that are making an impression in the local club scenes. Most artists in these BBC Sound of 2011 lists are far from that. Why does the BBC feel the need to big up these type of artists.Let the Majors do their own thing. It is not up to the BBC to latch on to Major label causes. They are not there to help increase Major labels turn-overs.The BBC should be about promoting whatever good music is about IMPARTIALLY.Not saying they should ignore Major label outputs - impartiality is the important part though - isn't that part of their Charter responsibility to the general public.

The sound of ... poll isn't so much about saying what is or should be big so much as predicting what they think will be big.

Of course its a bit like the chicken and the egg, do acts get big because of the "sound of" exposure, or do they get the sound of exposure because they are going to be big anyway. I'd say the latter.

The sound of poll isn't really suposed to be about making trends, its about spotting them. In that respect it does a decent job.

You mean spotting the talent Major labels want us to spot as 'the next big thing'
The BBC is just being lazy & predictable as far as I'm concerned. Not totally a big John Peel lover but he must be turning in his grave with this stupid poll.

I really really don't like Do It Like A Dude, but I adore Price tag. I don't like the excessive 'swagger' type style in Do It Like A Dude, it's quite annoying.

Then I listen to her doing Price tag acoustic and it's brilliant. She's definitely very talented, I just hope I like more of her stuff.

My favourite from the top 5 is definitely Clare Maguire though, I absolutely adore her.

Of course its predictable, major labels put the music out hold the promotional budgets and so forth and after all radio 1 is basically a pop music station.

Even in the days of John Peel Radio 1's daytime output wasn't about being cutting edge or leftfield.

Criticising it for being dominated by major label acts is missing the point of the list. Its not about saying who will produce the most exciting or original music in 2011, the first winner was 50 Cent after all!
