This probably wont end well.
I don't know who I would say the 'all time' best is, but right now; Beyonce, Christina and Gaga are probably my favourites. The latter may not be a conventional choice but I really love her smokey vocals at a piano and she has a surprisingly broad range and power. |

I actually don't think Jackson was a particularly great vocalist. He was unique and distinctive but I'm not convinced he ever had an amazing voice.
Anyway, great singers? Lot to choose from. We need to break it down to decades or genres. I mean here's a few right off the top... Elvis Steve Perry Aretha Franklin Freddie Mercury George Michael John Farnham Tina Turner I haven't included many female singers as they mostly have a tendency to perform a series of vocal gymnastics that they should be marked down for. Whitney, Mariah, Beyonce and oh my god Mary J Blige etc are all dreadful offenders. |

I vote for Christina, too. Although her voice isn't as good as it was in the past (I cringe when she tries to belt, because a lot of the notes are out of her range now), I love her tone.

These 'acapella' mixes of some of his songs shows how amazing he was behind all the production. You'd be lucky to find anyone capable of putting as much into a vocal performance! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruVhMi1xZyQ - Who Is It http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R55pAu8quak - The Way You Make Me Feel |

I'd say right now it's Beyoncé and Leona Lewis. Brilliant voices.

Female - Christina Aguilera.
Male - Adam Lambert - Nominated for the 2011 Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Whataya Want From Me". Adam is also a phenomenal rock vocalist. It would be amazing if Christina and Adam could do a duet together someday.

If we are going strictly with 'pop star' then I would actually say from hearing her a few weeks back on Jools Holland, Jessie J although completely not my thing musically, she has an absolutely incredible live voice. Her song 'Price Tag' that she did on the show was sung to absolute technical perfection. My jaw dropped when she was singing it, the crazy stuff that was coming out of her mouth! Couldnt believe how good she was. makes every other current female singer sound like.. well you know, not too good hehe
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S849lrkmuRcAlthough judging by her 'Do It like A Dude' studio recording, shes probably someone I won't be putting onto my ipod anytime soon although ill happily watch any live performances by her. |

Roy Orbison,Bobby Darin, Smokey Robinson, plus Male Elvis Presley Sam Cooke Jackie Wilson Nat King Cole Frank Sinatra Scott Walker Otis Redding Robert Plant Paul Rodgers Female Ella Fitzgerald Edith Piaf Etta James Connie Francis Sarah Vaughan Joni Mitchell Judy Collins Joan Baez Sandy Denny plus lots of obscure jazz and rhythm 'n' blues singers from the fifties. All from the distant pass I'm afraid. There are some very good singers around today, who would appeal to me a great deal if they sang in a different vocal style, but they don't, so they don't. |

Unless the OP made a mistake, this threads about the best voice on a POPSTAR. A lot of those mentioned are great singers, but not in the pop genre.

![]() Just because it isn't from the 80s on, doesn't mean it's not pop.

Dusty
Chaka Khan Liz Fraser Roisin Murphy Billie Ray Martin Grace Jones Aretha Franklin Kate Bush Frida & Agnetha Billie Holliday Ella Fitzgerald Bobby Gentry Patsy Cline Nan Mouskuori (dont think I spelt her right!) Siouxsie Sioux had amazingly strong vocals back in the 80's, before her voice became ravaged by time. Elastic soulless pop minstrels need not apply! ie: whitney,Celine,Mariah pariah, Xtina and most modern day 'divas'.
