I think she is. Unlike just about every other soap teen I can think of she's not bratty and selfish. She's sweet natured, kind and genuine. I love how despite everything Kevin has done to their family she can't help but still care about him, she's also accepted that baby Jack is her half brother and made a point of asking Kevin how he was the other day. Unlike Rosie who referred to him as "that thing". I can imagine Sophie being a kind and caring sister to Jack as he grows up.

I don't think I can think of another soap teen as nice as Sophie?

compared to Rosie she is a saint.

Rosie is a disgusting character. She talks about a child like that. She is one character I would love to see dead.

I don't mind Rosie so much since they've made her into more of a comedy character rather than a "sex siren". I used to cringe at her scenes, I don;t anymore.

Sophie is definitely the nicest Webster. The others are all selfish and Kevin is inconsiderate, Sally is sanctimonious and the word vain could have been invented to describe Rosie.

Although Sophie was devastated about Kevin having Jack through his affair with Molly, she became concerned for both her Dad's and her "brother"'s wellbeing. Even when she felt compelled to run away with Sian, she still phoned Rosie to let them know she was safe.

Sophie looks out for other people but does still stand up for her own feelings though.

Yeah, Sophie can teach him important things like how to get hot girls despite have the unfortunate combination of Kevin and Chucky's genetic material.

Haha. I think with all the death in his life, little Tom Cunningham will turn out to be a rebel.

Yes she is! She's so relatable, the things she says and the face movements she makes, I find her the most worthy compatible to the normal teenager! She's also quite funny.

God no.

She's a sanctimonious, hypocritical, silly girl. I've hated her even more since her *cough*excuse for lesbian action*cough* 'love story' began, where it seems everything she says is a speech about how she is "a lesbian" and how unfair everything is. Now, I can't stand homophobia or people being even 'a bit' funny over the idea, (and I find Sally's struggle with it hard to grasp and out of character), but I hate how they write it as if now she's discovered a new side to her sexual orientation, that's how she solely defines herself. She and Sian are Lesbians with a capital L and say it at every opportunity as if their sexual orientation is now their main character facet. Which it is, because they don't have much in the way of personalities.

Sigh. I just wish there could be gay characters in soaps who're allowed to just be people who happen to be gay, and that's it, no big issue storyline, no gay bashing, no solely defining themself as gay - just a person, with a personality, who's allowed the kinds of storylines that any of the straight characters are.

*deep breath* So... yeah, I don't like Sophie.

If you want a nice, different, intelligent soap teenager, there's only been Tamwar and Libby in EE, as far as I can see. That's it. As someone who was a teenager until recently, I find it so madening, because I relate to them far more than to the slutty Rosie Webster or psycho David Platt. Why can't teens in soap be allowed to be intelligent and interesting, and not always desperate to have sex the minute they can as if that's their only interest and purpose in life (ahem, looking at you, Chesney) without being portrayed as geeky, socially inept weirdos?

Actually, Sophie is pretty realistic. She has very strong feelings for her girlfriend (being a teenager), and she's coming to terms with LIKING being a lesbian, instead of her self-hatred.

Some gay lads I know DO define themselves by their "gayness" (they usually grow out of it)

It's also a soap, and so her "lesbian conversations" are therefore going to be written and filmed, rather then the ones where she buys a new bar of soap!

But I'm criticising the writing of her character by saying that not just about every line she utters needs to be a variant of 'because I'm a lesbian now!', it's just vacant writing. You can portray the development you're mentioning without hitting the audience over the head with an anvil every episode.

And I wasn't suggesting a storyline dedicated to Sophie's Adventures In Soap Shopping (though, I doubt I'd find that any more boring ), just that I loathe how gay characters always have to be Issue Of The Moment characters, and all their dialogue and storyline revolves around their sexuality, as if they can't have any drama beyond that. Of course, I'm not betting on Corrie keeping Sophie a lesbian forever, if she stays for a while, so I suppose it is an of-the-moment thing.
