This is in the new Fiat advert. Awesome tune - number 1 in 10 European countries - should have been number 1 here too.

Amy MacDonald is so underrated in Britain. I am so glad she gets the success she deserves in Europe. This Is The Life is fantastic. There isn't a single bad song on the parent album either. Poison Prince is one of my all-time favourite songs.

Great news for Amy. Well deserved!

Not only a great songwriter, but a great voice too.

In Germany, it was (I think) the 7th best-selling song of the decade.
In Switzerland, it was (I think) the 2nd best-selling song of all time.
It also reached the Year-End Top 10 in:
-> Austria (#8)
-> Belgium (Flanders) (#1)
-> Belgium (Wallonia) (#3)
-> Netherlands (#1)
-> Europe (#9)
-> Germany (#8)
-> Switzerland (#5)
-> Hungary (#4)
-> Spain (#6)
It really was a huge European hit!!

It's also randomly jumped back up to No.1 in Norway?

Number 65 on iTunes. Wonder how far this would have gone with even one play on radio 1. Awesome song - at least the rest of Europe agreed.

Agreed.

By the way Amy Macdonald was the 2nd most played artist on Radio 2 in 2010 and This Pretty Face was their most played song.

She is like a younger fresher K T Tunstall. Love that album and agree it was very underrated over here. I think she somehow slipped through unnoticed.

The second album went to number four in the charts in the UK and the first was number one, so she's certainly not gone unnoticed.

KT is by far the better live performer and in truth the better singer too, but I do love Amy's songs, particularly on the first album. Her voice can be a little hit and miss live.

She's a great songwriter, and by no means is this her best song.

Top 40 on iTunes - and all down to a 30 second clip on an ad. Imagine how big this would have been with the same kind of Radio play and TV promo she got in the rest of Europe. Suppose it's fitting that the ad is for an Italian company. I think This is the Life was number 1 there.

This was my fave single over Christmas 2007. Her follow-up Poison Prince was good too.

I always thought "Run" should have been a big hit. Lovely song.

Really dislike her as a person but she has such an unusual voice and that is a great song.

What do you dislike about her "as a person"?

She's just very unlikeable. She slags off so many singers (a) to get her name in the paper because her music isn't going to do that and (b) because she's jealous of people who are successful in the UK.

She had a go at Leon Jackson for being unable to perform at a gig because he was unwell and put it down to him having "lazyitis", then she'd goes and does the same thing and it's fine. :yawn:

Couldn't disagree more. She is totally unassuming and down to earth and when you read in the papers that she still has all the same friends she had at school - you know it will be true. Have a look at the video for Your Time Will Come and then say she doesn't seem lovely and unpretentious.

She was asked by the paper about Leon Jackson pulling out of the new year gig the day after his 21st??? birthday party and she said it didn't auger well for his future career as this was a tough business. When did telling the truth become a bad thing.

It was a very bitchy thing to say and Leon is only just one example. She seens like a very negative person

No her music isn't going to do that in the UK. I know she's big in Europe and doing particulary well in Sweden, but she's not got the same success here so she feels the need to slag people off to get a bit more publicity. Shame because like i said, i do like her music.
