Some of them are decent, but there are two or three highly questionable inclusions. Unfortunately, they seem to be going for "celebs" who aren't famous for doing anything in showbiz, instead they have WAGs and hangers on, and famous for being famous types who must have promised to create tabloid stories.
The ones who are doing it for the right reasons, and who have a decent back story are getting the least press attention in favour of those who are happy to convolute a story. I feel it's an insult to the professional skaters to have people with less legitimate claim to celebrity than them, described as their celebrity partners.
I don't think it's a case of not being able to get better celebs. Supposedly Faye from Steps is the reserve. I know she's not a massive star these days, but even with several years of keeping a lower profile, she's much more interesting and well known to the general public than someone who used to sleep with a footballer or a presenter on a minority channel, or someone who shares a surname of someone famous. I have serious concerns about what this means for how ITV plan to promote the show. It seems they want to make it more like Big Brother, so it's all about people who have their PRs giving stories to the trashy press than genuine famous faces learning something new.
I used to love the show, but casting choices this year, and to an extent last year, have cheapened the whole thing. I'll still record it, but I really can't stand the thought of watching VTs trying to convince me that this or that person is a celebrity.
